Tandem Computer selects Priority Call Management's ORYX as virtual office telephony platform; Company to reduce monthly telephone calling card costs by 50 percent
Business Wire, April 16, 1996
WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 16, 1996--Priority Call Management today announced that its ORYX platform has been selected by Tandem Computer Company (NYSE: TDM) as the solution for controlling costs on its virtual private telephone network (VPTN).
Tandem will use Priority's ORYX platform to manage business telephone calls made by employees who are away from the office. Tandem expects to save a projected $500,000 in the first year of operation, reducing its monthly telephone calling card costs by 50 percent.
ORYX, an intelligent digital switching platform, offers a quick and easy solution for business users' outbound calling needs, allowing for real-time monitoring and access of every phone call. This means large corporations gain financial control of all calls made through their enterprise telecommunications network. And, since the call is on the network, organizations can also leverage the telephone rates they have negotiated with their carriers. In addition to cost savings associated with outbound calling, ORYX provides better security, allowing users to change their passwords at any time to counter calling card fraud.
Based in Cupertino, California, Tandem is the world's leading provider of the fault-tolerant online transaction processing systems. Until recently, 500 of Tandem's most frequent business travelers relied on a telephone calling card when they were making calls. As monthly bills soared, Tandem looked for a more effective way of controlling their remote calling process. Priority's ORYX platform allowed the Company to dramatically cut costs by leveraging their virtual private telephone network to traveling employees.
"ORYX gives us the power to control the calling costs of our traveling executives, by providing restricted access to our telephone network's outbound lines," explains Warren Kirsch, Tandem's Director of MIS and Telecommunications. "ORYX is completely flexible. It enables us to tailor the application to meet our specific needs."
Tandem is also leveraging the ORYX platform to support other applications. The Company is currently evaluating how ORYX may be adapted to streamline call flow within workgroups.
Priority Call Management of Wilmington, Mass. is a global provider of intelligent telecommunications platforms. Priority's switch-based platforms are currently used by major corporations and wireless and wireline network service providers in markets including North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and South America. Priority's ORYX platform offers one number, voice dialing, pre-paid/calling card, international calling, integrated messaging access, and additional value-added applications to support today's virtual office workers.
