Business Wire, April 17, 1996
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 1996-- Rendition Inc., a leading developer and supplier of high performance 3D graphics processors, today announced that its Verite 3D graphics engine has been endorsed by Gremlin Interactive Ltd., a leading software game developer, as well as receiving full support from notable game publisher Domark Software Inc.
Gremlin Interactive develops hit titles such as Actua Soccer, Actua Golf and Fatal Racing. As a leading developer defining new standards for fast action titles for the PC entertainment market, Gremlin will continue to provide a host of interactive PC games that take full advantage of Verite's advanced feature set and processing power.
"Rendition's Verite graphics processor technology enables our next generation of game titles with our True 3D environment to have the most realistic game play and quality ever seen on a PC," stated Philip Wright, business development manager for Gremlin Interactive.
Ian Stewart, chairman at Gremlin Interactive, agreed, stating, "Verite supplies the optimal level of 3D acceleration for our current hit entertainment titles as well as for the many up and coming titles Gremlin will be developing over the next several months."
In addition to Gremlin's endorsement, Rendition has also earned the endorsements of Domark Software Inc. and Simis Ltd. Domark publishes and distributes several titles from Simis, who has been working closely with Rendition for the past two years to develop 3D simulation titles for PC gaming enthusiasts. Current Simis/Domark titles that will be Rendition Ready include Terracide, AH-64A, Deathtrap Dungeon, and Flying Nightmares II.
Jonathan Newth, technical director at Simis, stated, "I truly believe the Rendition Verite will provide us with the stepping stone to the next generation of PC-based 3D simulators. The home PC gamer is going to be blown away by the quality and sheer performance provided by the Verite. We fully intend to support the Rendition Verite in all future software title releases."
Michael Boich, president and CEO at Rendition, stated, "When designing the Rendition Verite, we consulted leading software developers to determine the architecture and feature set that would best suit their long term needs.
"Gremlin and Simis have been instrumental to Rendition's design team in helping us develop the most flexible, full-featured 3D graphics engine available on the market. Together, we will provide the most engaging simulation and gaming experience available to the PC consumer."
Rendition's Verite is a single-chip 3D graphics processor for PCs. Verite, which provides advanced rendering for striking image quality and realism, was recently selected by Microsoft as the Direct3D design reference platform. With a highly flexible embedded RISC core and powerful pixel pipeline, Verite has the ability to adapt to the evolving 3D market and support a variety of hardware application programming interfaces (APIs).
Verite provides state-of-the-art 3D features, including texture mapping with correct perspective, bilinear filtering, sub-pixel/sub-texel positioning, anti-aliasing, z-buffering, alpha blending and fog.
Verite's comprehensive feature set and unrivaled image quality are made possible by the chip's micro programmable graphics RISC core coupled with a high performance, hard-wired pixel-engine.
"We were one of the first developers to receive Rendition based cards for evaluation and, because of the chip's programmable core, we were able to port our most popular simulation titles to the Verite in a short time," stated Newth of Simis. "The Rendition Verite processor delivers the highest level of performance of any accelerator we have evaluated and comes equipped with the most complete feature set we've seen."
Rendition Inc., headquartered in Mountain View, is a venture-funded fabless semiconductor manufacturer focused on high-performance, low-cost 3D graphics processors for personal computers. Founded in January 1993, the company's products enable PC-based entertainment and multimedia users to enjoy the next generation of 3D graphics.
The Verite processor is currently available in design quantities, with production versions scheduled for availability in the second quarter 1996. -0-
