Business Wire, April 23, 1996

MARLBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 23, 1996--Lycos Inc. (NASDAQ:LCOS) an internet exploration company, announced today the introduction of Lycos Road Maps -- for searches resulting in geographical road maps -- on its popular Web site. The maps, based on technology supplied by Proximus Corp. of Sunnyvale, Calif. show users an actual road map from a simple search on a street or web address. Both Lycos Inc., and Proximus Corp. are members of the CMG Information Services Inc. (NASDAQ:CMGI) family of Internet investments.

This new view of the information available on the WWW offers users yet another way to find what they're looking for using the popular Lycos services. Lycos search, Point reviews and the new a2z directory. For example, a user looking for a restaurant or other business in an unfamiliar city can search for it using Lycos, then enter the street address to see a RoadMap of the surrounding area. Soon, the service will also include the ability to find the geographical location of a site by searching on its domain name.

"This technology, licensed from Proximus Corp., represents an important enhancement to our services," said Lycos Inc. President and CEO Robert J. Davis. "The new RoadMaps add even more context to the information available to our users."

Lycos RoadMaps are now accessible from the Lycos site at www.lycos.com, and like all the Lycos services, RoadMaps are available free to users.

"Proximus is very pleased to announce this relationship with Lycos," said Proximus Vice President of Marketing Jim DiSanto. "Lycos offers popular search and guide tools for the WWW while Proximus offers detailed geographical search and map display technology for the WWW. The convergence of these two technologies represents a powerful information filter for the WWW."

Lycos offers three lenses through which users can easily explore the World Wide Web, whether browsing categories, searching specific topics or seeking out objective reviews of the Web's best sites. Besides its spidering technology for topic- or word-specific searching, the Lycos services include Point Reviews, critical assessments of web sites; and the new a2z directory of sites, organized in 16 popular categories and hundreds of sub-categories, for easy browsing through topics of information available on the Internet. The URLs contained in a2z are the Net's most popular -- those with the greatest number of external links pointing to them from other sites -- and therefor bear the Web community's own endorsement of their content and value.

Lycos Inc., an internet exploration company, was founded specifically to find, index and filter information on the Internet and World Wide Web.
