Business Wire, April 23, 1996
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- April 23, 1996--Dataware Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of information management software and services, announces a new collaboration with Adobe Systems Incorporated to enable documents in the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) to be searched and retrieved across the Internet and Intranets.
Working with Adobe, Dataware Technologies is developing a Web server module for NetAnswer, its robust information management, query, and retrieval system for the World Wide Web. This new plug-in module will allow users of the next version of Adobe Acrobat software, code-named "Amber," to publish collections of PDF files on any major Web server, search their content, and retrieve documents across the Internet and Intranets. Amber provides enhanced PDF file viewing, such as page-at-a-time downloading from within popular browsers such as Netscape Navigator.
The plug-in module will include the following:
o Content searching of PDF files in Internet and Intranet applications
o Highlighting of search hit terms in conjunction with the Acrobat
Amber Reader and Netscape Navigator 2.0
o Page-at-a-time downloading of individual pages in a PDF
o Selection and viewing of only the pages that meet search criteria or
selections of complete PDFs.
"The new Web server module for NetAnswer will only enhance the already powerful electronic publishing capabilities of Adobe Acrobat software," comments Dave Emmet, Senior Vice President, Adobe Systems Incorporated. "By teaming with Dataware on this new product, we are helping our customers to leverage their investment in Acrobat software and easily extend their current online publishing environments to the Internet and Intranets."
"Combining the high-powered search capabilities of NetAnswer with Adobe's Acrobat Amber technology product, meets a significant demand among Internet information providers and searchers, while increasing the value of PDF as a standard Web publishing format," comments Bill Phelan, Director of Internet Product Marketing at Dataware Technologies.
The plug-in module is currently scheduled for commercial availability in the Fourth Quarter, 1996. -0-
