Cirrus Logic Names Robert Dickinson and William Chu to Head More Tightly Focused PC Graphics Company
Business Wire, April 24, 1996
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 24, 1996--Underscoring its commitment to focus on key products that will drive revenue growth, Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq:CRUS) announced today that its Visual & Systems Interface Company (VSys) will become the Graphics Company with the mission of developing and marketing graphics and video products for both desktop and portable personal computers.
The more tightly focused Graphics Company will be managed by William W.Y. Chu, 45, and Robert V. Dickinson, 54, who will operate from an Office of the President that reports directly to Michael L. Hackworth, president and chief executive officer of Cirrus Logic.
Dickinson will have primary responsibility for managing business strategy and operations, while Chu will focus on both product and customer development. Together, operating from an Office of the President, they will be jointly accountable for all aspects of strategy, operations and performance.
Douglas J. Bartek, 46, who has served as VSys president over the past four years of dramatic growth, will become CEO of a start-up activity that will be spun out of Cirrus Logic. This new venture, now in formation, will initially focus on the development and marketing of an advanced consumer electronics product.
Chu moves to his new position from the VSys post of vice president and general manager, responsible for desktop graphics products. As Dickinson assumes his new role, he will continue, on an interim basis, as president of the company's Japanese subsidiary, Cirrus Logic K.K.
Commenting on the organizational development, Hackworth noted, "Bringing Bill and Bob together to head our Graphics Company re-unites a very successful team. Before they joined Cirrus Logic about four years ago, both gentlemen worked together at Verticom, a successful supplier of high-performance subsystems for PC CAD, and then at Western Digital following its acquisition of Verticom. While the two gentlemen have been working in different areas since joining Cirrus Logic, each has made a significant contribution to our company's growth."
Cirrus Logic is a leading manufacturer of advanced integrated circuits for the desktop and portable computing, telecommunications and consumer electronics markets. The company applies its system-level expertise in analog and digital design to innovate highly integrated, software-rich solutions. Cirrus Logic has developed a broad portfolio of products and technologies for applications spanning multimedia, communications, mass storage, and data acquisition. -0-
