Quality Systems signs agreement with Indiana University School of Dentistry to implement a dental school and practice management system

Business Wire, April 25, 1996

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 25, 1996--Robert J. Beck, executive vice president of Quality Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:QSII), Thursday announced that Indiana University School of Dentistry has awarded the company a contract to implement QSI's dental school and faculty practice management system at the university.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The dental school, established in 1879 as the Indiana Dental College and then acquired by Indiana University in 1925, is ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top 10 dental schools in the country.

The dental school comprises 600 students and 8,000 alumni pursuing careers in dentistry. About 100 full-time and 85 part-time faculty members contribute to the university dental school's teaching and research programs.

Located in Indianapolis, the dental school offers complete dental care through its Comprehensive Care Clinic, operated by the faculty. Last year, more than 13,000 patients were seen by the dental school clinic.

The QSI system will centralize the operations of both the dental school and faculty practice by providing practice management as well as pre-/postdoctoral software functionality. These applications include appointment scheduling, treatment planning, utilization reporting, billing and accounts receivable, student grading, patient/student assignment and rotation scheduling.

The system, which operates on an IBM RS/6000, will connect the dental school and faculty practice and is scalable to grow with the school.

Lynn K. Finkel, director of administrative and financial affairs for the School of Dentistry, stated: ``In selecting Quality Systems for this very important phase of our growth plan, our clinic system selection committee looked for a company with the financial and personnel resources to ensure continued support and availability to meet our future needs.

``Operating on the IBM RS/6000 series of computers was also important to us, as was the large number of dental schools currently using QSI.''

Beck, commenting on the agreement, stated: ``We are extremely pleased to add such an innovative dental school as Indiana University School of Dentistry to our client list.

``QSI has had a major impact on the way large group dental practices run their businesses, and with the continued success of our dental school software, QSI will further affect the way in which dentists and dental schools view practice management in the years to come.''

Quality Systems is one of the leading developers and providers of computer-based practice management systems for medical and dental group practices, with a customer base of more than 450 clients currently serving approximately 6 million patients in 45 states, Canada and Saudi Arabia.
