ACC aces The Tolly Group's ISDN technology tests; ACC's Congo, Danube, Colorado, and Amazon ISDN routers are put to the test and the results speak for themselves

Business Wire, April 30, 1996

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1996--Advanced Computer Communications Inc. (ACC), a leading provider of network access solutions for the home, office, and enterprise, Tuesday announced the test results of The Tolly Group's ISDN Technology Trial.

ACC products were tested in scenarios for ISDN basic Dial-on-Demand connectivity, leased line and Frame Relay link backup, bandwidth aggregation, performance, spoofing, and remote user dial-in. ACC's Congo, Danube, Colorado, and Amazon were evaluated.

Results indicate that the ACC products tested offer a rich and powerful ISDN feature set. They employ sophisticated backup and recovery systems for Leased Line and Frame Relay installations. The backup mechanisms were proven to respond automatically to failures and minimize network downtime while remaining transparent to the end user and network manager.

Also, ACC's products offer bandwidth conservation through strong data compression and multiple spoofing algorithms. These algorithms are effective in significantly reducing ISDN link charges, an important consideration for any network.

"The Tolly Group has long recognized the importance of Data Compression as a router feature. It is like getting bandwidth for free," commented Kevin Tolly, president and CEO of The Tolly Group. "These tests show that ACC's products can compress data streams by a factor of more than 4.72 to 1 across ISDN."

"Being awarded The Tolly Group's `Up-to-Spec' verification for ISDN performance proves that ACC has a robust ISDN product suite fit for real-world applications," said Bert Whyte, president and CEO of ACC. "The ACC products involved in the trial were put through rigorous tests and the results speak for themselves -- ACC delivers ISDN."

Test Highlights

ACC's products demonstrate two vital and powerful ISDN features: bandwidth aggregation and Dial-on-Demand. The combination of these two functions offer a speedy mechanism for procuring bandwidth in times of high network activity.

The Amazon and Danube routers displayed Data Compression of up to 4.72 to 1 across a single 64 Kbps ISDN B channel and up to 4.27 to 1 across dual B channels. The routers also showed sophisticated backup and recovery systems for Leased Line and Frame Relay installations.

Congo, Danube, Colorado, and Amazon also offer rich protocol support: Data Link Switching for NetBIOS traffic, IP routing, IPX routing, and bridging were all tested without failure. In the arena of remote access, ACC was shown to provide cost-effective and easy-to-use solutions for end users.

ISDN Technology Trial

This study is focused on demonstrating ISDN as a technology solution and examined how ISDN integrates with existing corporate networks. The goal of this project is to provide unbiased, third-party evaluations of ISDN products. This technology trial provides objective, real-world case studies of ISDN integration into the enterprise and shows multivendor implementations. This study is not intended to be a head-to-head, competitive evaluation of like products.
