AT&T WorldWorx Service Adds Support for New Intel Product; AT&T Delivers Standards-Based Multipoint Voice/Video/Data Desktop Videoconferencing Service for ProShare Video System 200

BASKING RIDGE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1996--AT&T today announced an addition to the company's WorldWorx(R) multipoint voice, video and data conferencing service to support new features in Intel's upgraded ProShare(a) Video System 200, announced earlier today.

The enhanced AT&T WorldWorx Service includes support for the ITU T.120 standard for data sharing, which introduces another layer of interoperability to the desktop videoconferencing industry.

The T.120 standard was developed to allow multiple conference participants to share data files across various manufacturers' brands of equipment, in the same way that the H.320 standard was developed to allow real-time video and audio conferencing across a variety of endpoints. As an industry pioneer, AT&T has long championed the international standards-setting process as the essential element in providing interoperability across vendor platforms.

"We can now deliver a fully integrated ITU standards-based AT&T WorldWorx multipoint voice, video and data conferencing service using Intel's ProShare Video System 200."

The company also announced new usage-based pricing for its WorldWorx desktop videoconferencing service, which will now be billed at $1.10 per minute per location, with volume discounts. The service has been offered on a subscription basis since point-to-point capability was first introduced in June 1994.

AT&T introduced the world's first multipoint voice, video, and data conferencing service last July.

WorldWorx service, which is now available to 39 countries around the world, offers an unmatched level of security through dial-out conference call set-up and conference-level passwords to protect against unauthorized access to confidential files.

Videoconferences can be scheduled 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and technical support is also available around-the-clock. Reservations can be made by phone, fax or an on-screen process on as little as 30 minutes advance notice (assuming available capacity) or as far-ahead as 6 months.

Earlier this month, the WorldWorx videoconference services were combined with AT&T's TeleConference Service to give customers one-stop shopping for the full spectrum of their business meeting needs, regardless of underlying technology.

AT&T WorldWorx Service provides real-time, interactive voice, video and data conferencing between two or more locations. The desktop videoconferencing service includes multipoint collaboration, audio add-on for additional callers, conferee identification, public directories, entry and exit tones, business card feature for conference participants, and voice-activated or host-controlled video switching.
