Landmark Systems Partners with Microsoft to give Windows NT large-scale performance management

Business Wire, April 30, 1996

Vienna, VA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 30, 1996--Landmark Systems Corporation today announced a new offering of its PerformanceWorks(TM) performance management software suite that supports Microsoft's Windows NT(R)-based Internet applications and servers.

PerformanceWorks/Domain Station for Windows NT will monitor, manage and report on the performance of dozens or even hundreds of servers and applications.

Today Microsoft unveiled a collaboration of leading hardware and software companies, including Landmark, to build products that allow public network operators such as telephone and cable companies to deploy high-speed, video-enriched Internet services and content. The Microsoft public networks platform uses the Windows NT Server network operating system and other products such as the Internet Information Server and Internet Explorer browser.

"Microsoft recognizes that performance management is a necessary prerequisite for successful delivery of rich Internet services," said Craig Mundie, senior vice president, Microsoft consumer platforms division. "We chose Landmark as a strategic participating company in our public networks platform because of its leadership in the performance management market. Landmark's early shipment of a Windows NT product also made them a natural choice."

Telecom, cable and Internet service providers must ensure the performance and reliability of their systems. Poor system performance can yield lost revenue and customers. Users also need special software to diagnose problems on large numbers of Intranet and Internet servers and critical applications that use Windows NT.

Internet service providers also need decision support tools to identify customer demand, upgrade internal systems and provide the right kind of information and reports for strategic planning. The use of Domain Station for Windows NT allows network operators to watch Internet activity on dozens or even hundreds of NT servers.

"The greatest benefit of the Landmark/Microsoft alliance is that Windows NT users will finally get performance management tools that have been available only on Unix and mainframe platforms," said Andrew McCasker, head of Landmark's distributed product development. PerformanceWorks is an integrated solution that addresses all disciplines of performance management: monitoring, reporting, modeling and capacity planning. The software was designed to specifically address the issues unique to large distributed computing environments.

PerformanceWorks/Domain Station for Windows NT will be available in June through Landmark Systems Corporation. Sales information can be accessed via the Internet at http://www.landmark.com or info@landmark.com
