LOS ALTOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 1996- SurfWatch Software, Inc., today announced an alliance with EarthLink Network, Inc. to include SurfWatch, parental control software, in a comprehensive Internet solution package being offered by Graphix Zone for the Internet access provider.
In addition to SurfWatch, every copy of EarthLink Network's ExpressNet Suite includes Netscape Navigator 2.0, the most popular and highly acclaimed Internet Web browser; free Internet account set-up plus seven days of free use from EarthLink Network; an interactive Internet Coach Netscape tutorial by APTE; VocalTec's Internet Phone, which lets users participate in real-time, two-way Internet conversations worldwide; and a variety of Netscape Multimedia Plug-ins that enhance the multimedia capabilities of the Internet.
Valued at more than $250 as separate products, ExpressNet Suite sells for $49.95 per multi-platform CD-ROM.
"SurfWatch makes it easy for parents to proactively control what their kids have access to, and it does so without restricting the fundamental freedoms the net was built on," said Sky Dayton, CEO of EarthLink Network, Inc.
"EarthLink Network's ExpressNet Suite is ideally suited for families and new Internet users, who are SurfWatch's prime customers," said Ann Duvall, president of SurfWatch Software.
"ExpressNet Suite is an easy, affordable way to take advantage of all the educational and entertainment advantages of the Internet, and SurfWatch will help parents let their children have a positive Internet experience."
SurfWatch lets parents, teachers and employers block unwanted sexually explicit and other material from their computers' Internet access-without restricting the access rights of other Internet users.
The SurfWatch software removes no material from the Internet or any server, but simply blocks it at any computer or local network where it is installed.
SurfWatch screens Internet newsgroups, World Wide Web, FTP, Gopher, Chat and other services.
EarthLink Network is one of the largest national "pure Internet" access providers in North America. It provides local 28.8kb Internet access and business Internet services from more than 250 points of presence (POPs) in the U.S. and Canada -- with more cities being added weekly.
In less than two years, the company has grown from two employees to more than 325. EarthLink Network's Total Access was recently rated "A" by The Net magazine.
SurfWatch Software, Inc., based in Los Altos, Calif., is pioneering the development of new technologies for the Internet.
Founded in January 1995 with a vision of creating high-quality technology products that have a positive impact on peoples' lives, SurfWatch's first products enable parents, teachers and employers to block sexually explicit material on the Internet.
