Global Village releases new version of its award-winning LAN fax software for Microsoft Windows NT servers; FaxWorks Server 2.0 for Windows NT offers unmatched ease-of-use, scalability and cost savings
Business Wire, August 12, 1996
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1996--Global Village (NASDAQ: GVIL) has launched a major upgrade to its integrated network fax server software, FaxWorks Server 2.0 for Windows NT, an easy-to-use, scalable and cost-effective fax communication solution for small- to medium-sized businesses and departments within large corporations.
The new version adds substantial network administration, end user and cost-savings enhancements, featuring auto-installation, automatic fax board detection, extensive routing capabilities and increased fax board support.
"As fax communication continues to increase in popularity, managers are more aware of the overall costs," Andrew Watson, vice president and general manager, Global Village Communications Software Division, said.
"Our upgraded FaxWorks Server product changes the playing field for network fax solutions because it's simple to install and has an intuitive interface that our customers love. This focus on simplification should result in higher end user productivity and lower cost of ownership."
Eliminating the frustrating, hair-thinning experience of hovering over a fax machine waiting to send or receive an important document, FaxWorks Server 2.0 for Windows NT streamlines all fax communications on the desktop -- bringing fax send, receive, view and management capabilities to everyone on a company's network, as well as to remote users, such as traveling executives.
Easy-to-use, integrated network fax solution
Sending and receiving faxes was never so simple. With FaxWorks Server 2.0 for Windows NT, one easy-to-use program integrates fax send, receive, view and management capabilities.
From a single, intuitive interface, and with only a few clicks of the mouse, users can perform tasks such as: sending faxes from virtually any application, including word processing, database and spreadsheet documents; generating custom cover pages; merging faxes with letterhead; and, setting up and utilizing personal or shared phonebooks. Mark-up tools, scanner support and OCR enhancements allow users to annotate received faxes and resend without ever printing.
FaxWorks Server 2.0 for Windows NT features Wizard-like auto-installation and automatic inbound fax notification and routing capabilities and is the only fax server software solution that includes automatic fax board detection.
In addition to Direct Inward Dial (DID) and T.30 subaddress routing, version 2.0 adds CSID, DTMF and PCL Print Queue routing as well as an enhanced print driver. Requiring minimal end user training and support, FaxWorks Server 2.0 for Windows NT significantly lightens the burden on the network administrator.
FaxWorks Server 2.0 for Windows NT is a full 32-bit implementation that runs as a desktop application or a Windows NT service.
Boosts productivity and cuts costs
FaxWorks Server for Windows NT directly impacts an organization's bottom line -- what once took an average of six minutes to send by fax, can now be transmitted in approximately 72 seconds, resulting in substantial savings in telephone charges. For an office sending 25 faxes per day, this can add up to a $10,000 savings per year.
Scalable high performance
Incorporating Global Village's scalable client/server technology, FaxWorks 2.0 offers businesses the flexibility to grow their fax communication network as user numbers increase. Compatible with virtually all network operating systems, version 2.0 supports up to 96 fax channels per server and now offers support for GammaLink fax boards, Class 1, Class 2 and Class 2.0 modems as well as upgraded support for Brooktrout fax boards.
Integrated e-mail option
The FaxWorks Server for Windows NT e-mail option supports VIM, MAPI and MHS, and allows users to send and receive faxes via their existing e-mail packages.
