Raytheon Electronic Systems provides air traffic control workstations for new Gardermoen Airport in Oslo, Norway

Business Wire, August 16, 1996

BEDFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 1996--Raytheon Electronic Systems (RES) has been selected by Oslo Lufthavn A.S. to supply integrated controller workstations for the tower and ramp operations for the new $3 billion Gardermoen Airport, located approximately 24 miles north of Oslo, Norway.

The contract award, for $10.85 million, includes a Raytheon AutoTrac Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, which handles airport control tower functions such as clearance delivery, taxiway control, de-icing management, and inbound/outbound control functions. It features 11 dual-headed high-brightness X-window workstations which will display and access all controller-required information in an integrated fashion. The system will be integrated with airport information and control systems, as well as with the recently commissioned Oslo Air Traffic Control Center (ATCC).

The unique tower system features an electronic flight display system developed and prototyped by the Eurocontrol Research Center at Bretigny, France in conjunction with Luftfartsverket and Oslo Lufthavn A.S.

The system also contains its own full-featured radar data processing capability and is redundant for high availability. The concept is extendible so that the Oslo Center can handle a number of integrated tower locations.

"This is a significant win for Raytheon Electronic Systems," said Michael M. Hoeffler, manager of transportation systems for RES. "It represents a natural extension of our AutoTrac product into the increasingly important airport control arena. We look forward to working with Oslo A.S. and Luftfartsverket in order to deliver a quality system to complement that of the recently opened Oslo ATCC.S

In the past five years, Raytheon has become a major worldwide supplier of air traffic control automation systems and radars. In Europe, the company is providing major ATC systems for the German Air Navigation Service and the Luchtverkeersbeveiliging (LVB) at Schipol in The Netherlands, as well as radar systems for the United Kingdom, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands, Cyprus, Germany, Estonia, and Switzerland.

Raytheon is also installing ATC systems worldwide in India, Taiwan, Oman, Hong Kong, China, and Australia.

In North America, Raytheon is providing display systems for the next generation Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) systems and is currently installing 47 Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) systems near major airports and FAA Technical Centers across the Unites States.

Raytheon Company, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is a $12 billion international, high technology company which operates in these businesses: commercial and defense electronics, engineering and construction, aircraft, and major appliances.
