Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp. announces additional board member

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 19, 1996--Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp. Monday announced that Pedro Cuatrecasas, M.D., was elected to its board of directors at a directors meeting on Aug. 13, 1996.

Cuatrecasas is presently vice president of Warner-Lambert Co. and president, pharmaceutical research, of Parke-Davis in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Cuatrecasas has more than 20 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having held executive positions in research and development at Burroughs Wellcome and Glaxo before joining Warner-Lambert in 1989. Prior to joining Burroughs Wellcome, he was a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

According to Duane Roth, chief executive officer of Alliance: "Dr. Cuatrecasas has a great deal of direct experience in the management of drug products through the regulatory approval process. We are pleased to add a person of his stature to our board."

Alliance is a pharmaceutical research and development company with three products currently in clinical studies: Oxygent, an intravascular oxygen carrier for use as a temporary "blood substitute," which is being co-developed with affiliates of Johnson & Johnson; LiquiVent, an intrapulmonary "liquid ventilation" drug for use in treating patients with acute respiratory failure, which is being co-developed with Hoechst Marion Roussel; and Imagent US, an intravenous contrast agent for enhancement of ultrasound images.
