Rockwell Space Systems Division selects Universal Document Management Systems' Step2000 best-of- breed workflow software; first implementation in NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter program
Business Wire, August 21, 1996
CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 21, 1996--Universal Document Management Systems, Inc., a leading developer of workflow-enabling and application development systems, today announced that its Step2000(TM) software has been selected by the Space Systems Division of Rockwell International Corporation (NYSE:ROK) as the division standard for workflow application development. Terms were not disclosed.
Rockwell's initial Step2000 workflow application streamlines, controls and reports on proposed engineering design change proposals (EDCP) in the NASA Space Shuttle Orbiter program. The EDCP review and communication process affects design changes submitted for approval by over 200 outside suppliers to the program.
Step2000 was selected as the division standard because it allows Rockwell's IT staff to quickly create and deploy reliable, sophisticated workflow applications. Step2000 supplies SSD with the tools to seek out and improve the efficiency of key business processes throughout the division.
According to Delphi Consulting Group, Inc., a Boston consultancy specializing in the workflow market, Step2000 is a best-of-breed software system that incorporates key rapid application development (RAD) functions to specifically ease the development process and speed-up application deployment. "Their approach helps shorten the time to deployment of new applications, which closes the gap between users and developers," said Tom Koulopoulos, Delphi's president.
Step2000 is a client/server, object-oriented workflow and document management product that can concurrently work with virtually any DBMS or multiple DBMS products. The system features automatic mapping of workflows to all supported platforms including Windows, AIX, OS/2, SunOS, or Macintosh. A complete user-interface creation facility and graphical workflow builder are integrated to assist in the rapid creation and deployment of workflow systems. The product includes a set of APIs that allow third-party GUI development tools to be used as the front end to the Step2000 workflow server.
Universal Document Management Systems, Inc. of Cincinnati, Ohio, develops integrated workflow and application development software that offers IT departments rapid design, prototyping and deployment of workflow and document management applications. These products are used in companies such as PPG Industries, GE Plastics and Abbott Laboratories. Universal Document Management Systems is a wholly owned subsidiary of MedPlus (NASDAQ:MEDP), a leading supplier of information technology to the healthcare industry.
