Informix Extends Integrated Product Offerings for SAP R/3 to Windows NT; Customers To Deploy R/3-Informix Enterprise Solutions on UNIX or NT
Business Wire, August 26, 1996
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 26, 1996--Informix Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: IFMX), the leading provider of innovative database technology, today announced that it will deliver their integrated INFORMIX(R)-OnLine Dynamic Server(TM) and SAP R/3(TM) solution on Microsoft's industry-leading Windows NT(TM) operating system later this year.
The announcement builds on the companies' UNIX(R) success and illustrates their commitment to the enterprise Windows NT market.
The availability of the Informix/SAP solution on Windows NT will provide customers their choice of platforms for their departmental to enterprise computing needs. Customers have chosen the Informix-R/3 solution for the mission-critical performance, reliability and scalability that Informix's Dynamic Scalable Architecture(TM) (DSA) provides. Combined with the price/performance of Windows NT at the departmental or branch level, the Informix/SAP solution will offer a seamless and cost-effective growth path to customers who want to scale to larger departments or UNIX-based enterprise environments without rewriting their applications. In addition, Informix/SAP customers can take advantage of R/3's easy-to-use graphical database administration tool, SAPDB, which was developed by Informix and SAP and is the only GUI-based SAPDBA version available with R/3.
Customers implementing R/3-Informix applications will be able to choose from all UNIX platforms supported by SAP and Informix, as well as Intel-based PC systems with Windows NT. Applications can be deployed on cost-effective PC systems with R/3 in computing environments ranging from small and middle-sized companies to very large installations with thousands of users running on a central Informix database server and high-end UNIX systems.
"The Windows NT market is growing explosively as companies want to extend their applications throughout the enterprise," said Martin Brauns, general manager of Informix's SAP business development unit. "Delivering the R/3-Informix solution on NT allows our mutual customers to take advantage of the excellent price/performance of Windows NT at the workgroup and departmental level, while creating a flexible computing solution that can easily grow to midrange and high-end UNIX environments."
Customers Demand Solutions on Windows NT
Customer demand for solutions on Windows NT has driven Informix and SAP to provide their integrated products on Windows NT. Customers in small or middle-sized companies as well as workgroup or departmental levels can take advantage of the cost-effective and user-friendly Windows NT interface.
"Informix is our strategic database platform for 4,000 R/3 users companywide," said Dr. Peter Bauer, director of IT at Bosch-Siemens Hausgeraete GmbH, one of the top three manufacturers of household appliances in Europe. "Depending on different scalability requirements we deploy R/3 either on UNIX or NT-based platforms. We are very excited that we can now use Informix for Windows NT deployment as well."
