Polar Air Cargo names Ian Jackson vice president terminal services

LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 28, 1996--Polar Air Cargo, one of the largest scheduled B-747 all-cargo carriers, has named Ian Jackson, a 30-year air cargo industry veteran, as vice president, terminal services, announced Edwin H. (Ned) Wallace, Polar Air Cargo chief executive officer.
In his new position, Jackson is responsible for all of Polar's global terminal and trucking operations, including vendor ground handling agreements worldwide and dangerous goods administration worldwide.
"Ian Jackson will make a major contribution to Polar's continuing global market expansion," Wallace said. "His extensive terminal operations management experience is an invaluable asset for our senior management team."
Prior to joining Polar Air Cargo, Jackson spent seven years with Federal Express, most recently as managing director -- air, ground, terminals and transportation in Southern California. Prior to Flying Tigers' merger into Federal Express in 1989, he spent 23 years with Flying Tigers in a succession of terminal operations management positions.
Jackson graduated from Pepperdine University and resides in Manhattan Beach, Calif. with his family.
In just three years since its launching, Polar has become one of the largest, airport-to-airport all-cargo carriers in the world, serving international freight forwarders and agents. With 13 B-747F all-cargo aircraft in its global fleet, which will soon grow to 15 aircraft, with the addition of two B-747-200 freighter aircraft later this year.
With headquarters in Long Beach, Polar Air Cargo currently offers prime time departures and arrivals, with on-airport cargo facilities, in New York (JFK); Chicago; Los Angeles; Atlanta; Miami; Columbus, Ohio; Honolulu; and Anchorage, Alaska in the United States.
International scheduled service includes Sydney and Melbourne, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; Hong Kong; Seoul, Korea; Taipei, Taiwan; Singapore; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Santiago, Chile; Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, Manaus, Brazil; London; Amsterdam, Holland.
