Citrix's ICA ActiveX client downloads resume from Microsoft web site

Business Wire, August 29, 1996

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 29, 1996--Citrix Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CTXS) today announced resumption of its WinFrame ActiveX control downloads from Microsoft's Internet Explorer 3.0 Web site. As previously announced, the company has a licensing agreement granting Microsoft a license to embed its ICA client software in upcoming versions of Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT operating systems.

Citrix temporarily suspended downloads of its ICA ActiveX control from third-party Web sites last week because of questions raised about the process for securing Internet-connected WinFrame servers. Upon investigation, the company learned that some Web administrators had not configured their WinFrame servers for optimal Internet security. Different security configurations are required when WinFrame servers are outside company firewalls.

Citrix is working to increase awareness among channel members, industry partners and customers on properly securing its WinFrame multi-user applications servers. Citrix worked with Microsoft to publish a technical note on WinFrame Internet configuration and is developing a toolkit that further simplifies WinFrame security configuration.

"Microsoft appreciates the rapid, precautionary measures Citrix took to help make it easier for companies to secure WinFrame servers when connected to the Internet," said Dan Neault, business manager in Microsoft's Desktop and Business Systems Division. "Their proactive and responsible actions exemplify why we have such a long-standing relationship with Citrix."

Citrix Systems, Inc. develops, markets and supports multi-user application server software under license and strategic agreement with Microsoft. The company's flagship product line, WinFrame, enables the high-performance, enterprise-wide deployment of Windows applications without regard to location or type of client hardware platform. Founded in 1989, Citrix is based in Coral Springs, Fla.

Forward-looking statements in this release are made pursuant to the safe harbor provisions of the Private Securities Litigation Reform Act of 1995. Investors are cautioned that all forward-looking statements involve risks and uncertainties, including, without limitation, risks associated with the company's reliance upon its strategic relationships with Microsoft and other strategic partners, dependence upon broad-based acceptance of the company's ICA protocol, management of growth, potential for undetected software errors and dependence on proprietary technology, as well as risks of downturns in economic conditions generally, and in the software industry specifically, risks associated with competition and competitive pricing pressures, and other risks detailed in the company's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
