Jones Intercable sells Jones Satellite Programming; sale of another non-strategic asset further simplifies corporate structure

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 5, 1996--Jones Intercable Inc. (NASDAQ: JOIN/JOINA) today announced it has sold its subsidiary, Jones Satellite Programming Inc. (JSP), to Superstar/Netlink Group LLC, a Delaware limited liability company.

JSP distributes satellite-delivered television services to single, private U.S. households for receipt by television receive-only (TVRO) earth-station dishes.

The sale of the TVRO programming service is in keeping with the company's intent to simplify its corporate structure and to concentrate on its core communications business. Jones Intercable had sold another non-strategic asset, Jones Galactic Radio Inc., which operates two audio programming services, to an affiliated company in June 1996.

Jones Intercable is one of the largest cable television operators in the United States. It owns or manages 48 cable systems serving more than 1.4 million basic subscribers.
