USCS International partners with AT&T and Brooks Fiber to create Sacramento's largest private Metropolitan Area Network
Business Wire, August 8, 1996
RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 1996--Jim Castle, chairman and chief executive officer of USCS International (NASDAQ:USCS), Thursday announced the completion of the company's Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), linking its multiple sites in El Dorado Hills and Rancho Cordova.
USCS International is the first company in Sacramento to take such widely dispersed facilities and connect them together with high-bandwidth, fiber-optic technology.
``With the completion of our new Metropolitan Area Network, we now have the ability to treat our seven Sacramento-area locations -- three in El Dorado Hills and four in Rancho Cordova -- as one, single virtual campus,'' said Castle.
In addition to speeding internal-voice and data transmission on a 155 megabit (OC-3) ring, the MAN also allows enhanced worldwide connectivity through its use of AT&T's Sacramento-area facilities, which are linked to AT&T's global network.
This opens up significant opportunities for USCS International to connect its worldwide customers and vendors more easily and more flexibly, and manage in-bound and out-bound data more effectively.
The project also accelerated the installation of Brooks Fiber Communication's new SONET ring into Folsom and El Dorado Hills. The high-bandwidth, fiber-optic ring -- which is redundant and ``self-healing'' -- is attractive to high-tech companies seeking start-up or relocation sites in Sacramento and surrounding areas.
The El Dorado Hills business park, for example, is now more attractive for firms that require high-bandwidth communications.
USCS International is a leading provider of customer-management software and services to the global communications industry. The company's clients include cable television, wireless and landline telephony, direct broadcast satellite and multiservice providers in the United States and 15 other countries.
