Blue Fish Clothing to open retail store in New York City

FRENCHTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 26, 1996--Jennifer Paige Barclay, founder and chairperson of Blue Fish Clothing Inc. announced today that a lease has been signed for a new Blue Fish retail store in Soho, New York City at 150 Greene Street which the company plans to open in February 1997.
Blue Fish will lease 6,500 square feet in a historic, cast iron landmark building that was formerly occupied by the Metro Pictures Gallery.
"We are working on the store's design and hope to open by mid-February," said Barclay. "Blue Fish combines many natural, creative elements to form a unique environment which is energetically alive and inspiring. Soho is the perfect location for Blue Fish -- offering diversity that mirrors who our customers are -- all ages, all sizes, trans-cultural, generational -- Blue Fish is a lifestyle concept."
Four other retail stores are currently owned and operated by Blue Fish in Santa Fe and Taos, N.M.; Frenchtown, N.J.; and Austin, TX. The clothing is sold in 500 boutiques and better specialty stores throughout the United States including Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.
Blue Fish is known for its artisan-produced , one-of-a-kind hand block-printed clothing, made in the USA. Each piece of Blue Fish clothing is printed by hand with hand-carved blocks by one of 42 artists in the company's Frenchtown, N.J. studio, where the clothing is designed and produced. The signature block of each artist can be found inside the hem of the garments they have created. The clothing attracts a loyal and growing clientele who collect the garments for their artistic beauty, comfort and the unique possibilities of layering for an individual, creative look.
Last May, Blue FIsh completed a successful Direct Public Offering raising nearly $4 million. Blue Fish shares are now traded exclusively on the Chicago Stock Exchange. Shares can be purchased through any securities broker (symbol BLF).
