RAM & UNISYS TAP RACOTEK FOR MOBILE DATA DEPLOYMENT; More than 1,000 mobile workers on RAM Mobile Data Network

Business Wire, Dec 5, 1996

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 1996--Racotek, Inc., (Nasdaq: RACO) a leading mobile data solutions company, today announced that it is completing work for the deployment of a mobile data system for Unisys Corporation to communicate with more than 2,000 workers in its field service operations in the U.S. Currently more than half of the U.S. field service workers are operational and additional workers worldwide will be added in 1997.

The mobile data system deployed at Unisys puts detailed customer and system maintenance data into the hands of Unisys computer service technicians and improves customer response times. The mobile data solution is designed to enhance service to Unisys customers throughout the U.S.

RAM solicited Racotek in December 1995 to substitute for a subcontractor which unexpectedly ceased operations. Racotek assumed the contract obligations and completed required changes and testing to enable the desired worldwide mobile data system. Racotek will evolve the system in several directions including enabling new portable platforms such as Windows(R)95. In addition, Racotek will support communications enabling software technologies directly for Unisys.

"RAM and Unisys needed the completion of key middleware features, their integration and testing," said Bill Lenahan, president and chief executive officer of RAM Mobile Data, the prime contractor to Unisys. "Racotek rapidly stepped in, organized an experienced team and committed to complete work required to get Unisys the right solution."

"Racotek truly demonstrated its expertise and professionalism in stepping into a difficult situation and getting us what we needed," said Larry Owsley, process manager for Global Operations Support at Unisys and responsible for the project. "We will consider Racotek a key player in future expansions."

"We are completely dedicated to getting customers the solutions they are looking for and to working with important business partners like RAM Mobile Data to make sure that their customers are happy," said Mike Fabiaschi, president and chief executive officer of Racotek. "This is how we do business and deliver on our promises."

Racotek builds, enables and supports data mobility. Racotek has developed the KeyWare(TM) family of software products to facilitate mobile workgroup computing. The company provides consulting and professional services to help customers design, develop and implement mobile data solutions. To ensure maximum system availability, Racotek offers Managed Network Services, a single point of contact for customers using multi-vendor environments. The company is based in Minneapolis with regional offices in Boston, Chicago, Dallas and San Francisco.
