Eastman Kodak Company Selects PictureWorks Software for Image Magic FlashPix CD System; PictureWorks delivers immediate FlashPix functionality to consumers
Business Wire, Dec 9, 1996
DANVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 9, 1996--PictureWorks Technology, Inc., the leading digital imaging company, today delivered the first in a series of recently announced digital imaging applications based on Eastman Kodak's FlashPix imaging technology.
The PictureWorks Viewer, an application that lets users view and work with images distributed in the FlashPix format, will be included with each Kodak Image Magic FlashPix CD. The PictureWorks Viewer is the first application to provide multi-platform (Macintosh, Windows '95, Windows 3.1 and Windows NT) support for the newly announced FlashPix architecture.
"PictureWorks is pleased to be the first software company to support this new imaging architecture across all of today's most popular desktop computing platforms," said Donald Strickland, president and CEO of PictureWorks. "We're especially pleased to work with Kodak on this new imaging standard and plan to provide many products that fully utilize the FlashPix imaging architecture."
The PictureWorks application lets users view, organize, edit, save and creatively print their newly digitized FlashPix images. It is the only fully FlashPix-enabled application available today that supports Windows '95, Windows 3.1, Windows NT, and Macintosh PowerPC and 68K based platforms. In addition to easily performing image enhancements such as rotating, cropping and improving the exposure qualities and lighting conditions in an image, the PictureWorks Viewer lets users print wallet-sized, 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 prints from their FlashPix images. Users can specify whether to print one image on a page, or to fully utilize the page and automatically print as many images per page as will fit. The PictureWorks application also provides a useful bridge to other popular applications by allowing users to convert images to other commonly used file types such as BMP, TIFF, JPEG and PICT.
The Kodak Image Magic System FlashPix CD product will store images scanned onto a writable CD-ROM disc. Consumers can have a complete roll of film scanned to disc by a photofinisher or retailer at the time of processing. Consumers also can select images chosen from multiple rolls of film and then store them on a single Kodak Image Magic System FlashPix CD. Each CD can store hundreds of pictures. The high-resolution scans (approximately 1024 x 1536 pixels) will allow people to use the CD images in the creation of framed prints, invitations, photo album covers and other high-quality output of the picture creations they customize and design on-screen.
