BMC Software To Deliver PATROL Application Management Module for Arbor Software's Essbase; Automated Application Management Solution Eases Cross-Enterprise Deployment of OLAP Server
Business Wire, Feb 12, 1996
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 1996--Arbor Software (Nasdaq: ARSW), a leading provider of client/server software for business planning, analysis and management reporting today announced an agreement with BMC Software that will provide automated application management capabilities for Essbase, Arbor's multidimensional database server.
BMC Software will link the PATROL product, the industry leading application management solution, with Essbase to facilitate the management of enterprise-wide On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) applications. Common Essbase database and application management tasks such as resource monitoring, database recovery, and performance optimization will be automated by PATROL. Essbase service levels will be maximized, providing increased user productivity, greater applications availability and faster response times.
PATROL Knowledge Module for Essbase
The PATROL KM for Essbase contains a rule base of information about managing Essbase databases. The rule base is implemented by the PATROL agent which can then monitor, manage, and take corrective action for Essbase databases and applications in a managed environment. The contents of the PATROL KM for Essbase rule base were jointly specified by Arbor, BMC Software and Essbase users.
"More than 550 major corporations are using Essbase for management-critical OLAP applications," said Kirk Cruikshank, Arbor's vice president of marketing. "We are pleased that BMC Software has recognized Arbor's market and technology leadership and has selected Essbase to be the first OLAP server managed by PATROL."
"The PATROL KM for Essbase will bring tremendous benefits to Essbase users," said Leland Putterman, vice president of worldwide marketing for BMC Software. "PATROL will effectively automate the management of Essbase OLAP applications, and will continuously optimize Essbase performance."
About Essbase
Essbase is used for planning and analysis applications which require a defined analytical structure, consolidated actual, projected and derived data, multi-user, read/write data access and consistently fast response time regardless of database size. Essbase operates effectively within a data warehousing strategy or as a standalone, departmental solution. Essbase operates on servers running Windows NT OS/2 and UNIX across all major networks connected to Windows, Macintosh and UNIX clients.
About PATROL
The PATROL product suite from BMC Software automates and centralizes the control of all the critical elements in distributed application management including data, databases, servers and applications. PATROL consists of intelligent agent(s), management console(s), and Knowledge Modules (KMs). KMs are encapsulated expertise about how to manage objects in the environment. KMs provide the agent with more product-specific information, allowing a single agent to manage all the components and objects associated with a server.
Availability and Pricing
The PATROL Knowledge Module for Essbase is planned for availability in the second half of calendar 1996. It will be sold and supported by BMC Software. Pricing for PATROL KM for Essbase begins at $1000 depending on the quantity and server size.
