Precise Software Solutions Introduces Inspect/SQL for Oracle; Software Tool Inspects Applications and Databases to Identify the Sources of Performance Problems
Business Wire, Feb 12, 1996
BRAINTREE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 12, 1996--Precise Software Solutions today introduced Inspect/SQL, a software tool which allows database administrators and applications developers to diagnose Oracle database performance problems.
According to F. Daniel Haley, president of Precise Software, "Inspect/SQL helps organizations improve the performance of Oracle databases and applications by identifying the real sources of performance problems. Inspect/SQL eliminates the guesswork and the tedious, manual, trial-and-error processes currently employed by database administrators (DBAs). Inspect/SQL quickly finds and graphically displays the resources consumed by the application so that problem applications and SQL statements can be corrected immediately. Applications developers and DBAs can continue to use Inspect/SQL throughout the development lifecycle to optimize systems performance."
Inspect/SQL is a member of the company's Precise/SQL suite of applications performance tools. It examines system-level resources and targets problem applications and SQL statements. Inspect/SQL graphically represents both database resource consumption as well as the operating system's impact on the databases. The innovative architecture provides high sampling rates without performance degradation, and registers detailed consumption information about both the UNIX operating system and database system resources. Inspect/SQL allows DBAs to drill down to quickly target specific applications - and even specific SQL statements - that are causing the problem.
Customers can then model potential solutions to the problem using the complementary Analyze/SQL tool, which can automatically generate a list of alternate SQL statements so users can choose the alternative which offers the greatest performance enhancement.
Platforms, Pricing and Availability
Inspect/SQL consists of client software running on PC clients under the Windows 3.1, Windows '95, and OS/2 operating systems. It also consists of server software, which runs IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Sun Microsystems, and other popular UNIX platforms. Inspect/SQL will be generally available in March, and the list price ranges from $5,000 to $35,000, depending on configuration. Volume discounts are available, and bundled pricing is also available for customers purchasing both Inspect/SQL and Analyze/SQL. Pricing includes 90 days of maintenance.
