Business Wire, Feb 13, 1996
Billerica, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 1996-- Wang (NASDAQ:WANG) announced today that Motorola has awarded Wang Federal a $5.1 million contract for Wang's XTS-300 security software, hardware and support services. Motorola is the prime contractor for the U.S. government Network Security Managers (NSM) program.
Over the past three months, Wang Federal has announced software and service contracts totaling more than $71 million. The contracts include commitments ranging from two to five years with Wang as the prime or subcontractor for Federal market customers, including NASA's Kennedy Space Center, the Air Force and the Department of Defense.
The NSM program will provide the network security infrastructure for the Defense Message System as well as other future federal agency networks. As a subcontractor to Motorola on the NSM program, Wang will provide engineering support services for the Department of Defense and federal civilian agencies as they integrate their local and wide area network services with the Multi-level Information System Security Initiative (MISSI) technology.
"Implementations of the MISSI infrastructure require the highest levels of security" said Tom Grimes, Motorola's program manager for NSM. "As a member of the Network Security Managers team, Wang's information security products and experienced professionals will play a key role in our development of this government-wide network security system," Grimes added.
Wang's XTS-300 secure computer system was specified by the National Security Agency (NSA) as a mandatory B3 level platform for all of the MISSI Network Security Management infrastructure applications. Wang's XTS-300 is the only computer system listed at the B3 level, which is the highest B-level rating for any product on the NSA's Evaluated Products List.
The NSM program is a 30-month program sponsored by NSA. The objective of the program is to develop the network system security infrastructure for managing key, certificate, audit and other security services for U.S. government network operations.
NSM will provide a multi-level security capability for networked information systems, as well as a single, integrated security infrastructure for all user needs, including e-mail, electronic data interchange, electronic commerce, command and control, intelligence, and business systems.
"We are proud that Motorola selected Wang as its partner for the NSM program." said Ron Cuneo, president of Wang Federal. "We believe NSM is an ideal application for the XTS-300, and we look forward to working with Motorola on this very strategic national security program," Cuneo added.
