Compuserve Selects Microsystems' Cyber Patrol For Its 4.3 Million Users; Parental Control Tool Puts the Power to Restrict Access to Content in the Hands of the Individual

Business Wire, Feb 13, 1996

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 1996--Microsystems Software announced today that its Internet filtering software -- Cyber Patrol -- has been selected by CompuServe as its parental control tool.

Cyber Patrol places the power to restrict access to content in the hands of the individual. Cyber Patrol allows parents to manage their children's Internet access, limit the total time spent on- line and block access to Internet sites they deem inappropriate.

"We are excited about working with CompuServe to provide a global solution to the challenge of parental controls and content review," said Nigel Spicer, president and chief operating officer for Microsystems Software. "We developed Cyber Patrol with the belief that responsibility for content lies with the individual user, and that parents need to be actively involved in shaping the online experience for their children. It is clear that parents worldwide want a flexible solution, and we are pleased that in cooperation with CompuServe we are able to provide Cyber Patrol to them.

"Cyber Patrol, unlike government censorship, actually solves the problem for parents who want to be sure that their children have a positive experience on the 'net. Parents get a solution that helps them choose what is seen, heard or accessed in their home. Cyber Patrol provides freedom of listening to the family and allows parents to make choices that reflect their own individual values and standards."

CompuServe is providing Cyber Patrol free-of-charge for one year (a $70.00 value) to its 4.3 million users in 147 countries. Cyber Patrol can be downloaded from the Parental Controls Forum on CompuServe (GO CONTROLS) and CompuServe's World Wide Web sites, including the new SPRYNET service (www.compuserve.com and www.sprynet.com). -0-
