Logitech's MouseMan 96 Raises the Bar for Windows 95 Peripherals; Newest Pointing Device Offers "HyperJump", Additional Special Features Designed to Enhance Productivity Under Windows 95
Business Wire, Feb 14, 1996
international market leader in control devices and imaging solutions for the personal computer, announces MouseMan 96, a three-button pointing device specifically designed for the Microsoft Windows 95 environment.
Featuring programmable buttons, and advanced "HyperJump" command, and an attractive, comfortable design, MouseMan 96 is Windows 95 certified, with complete plug-and-play compatibility. The product, which includes MouseWare 7.1 software, will be available through Logitech dealers and distributors at an estimated street price of $59.95 (U.S.).

With the HyperJump feature included in MouseWare 7.1, users can instantly access eight of the most frequently used Windows 95 management commands with a single click of the middle mouse button. HyperJump immediately displays these commands -- Start, Menu Bar, Minimize, Close Current Window, Vertical Scroll, Horizontal Scroll, Resize Current Window, and Recall Last Task -- in a centered grid. If desired, users can also customize the middle and right buttons by assigning alternate functions such as a Double Click, Cut, Paste, and other frequently used options.
"With the advent of Windows 95 and widespread use of larger resolution displays, users are faced with increased mouse travel to reach common button commands," said William Sheehan, Logitech's director of retail pointing devices. "Logitech designed HyperJump as a way to reduce the amount of mouse movement necessary and make it easier to move the cursor over these longer distances to find the same small objects."
MouseWare 7.1 provides tools for customizing cursor size, color, sensitivity, and other device behaviors to best meet individual needs. Special Mouse Trails and Tracker options make it easier to find and follow the cursor in any applications. A "SmartMove" feature enables the cursor to jump to the next logical active command. For example, if a user chooses to print a document from the "File" menu, when the print dialog box appears, the cursor will immediately jump to the "OK" button.
"With MouseMan 96, Logitech has gone beyond what Microsoft requires of mouse vendors for certification and produced a pointing device that's optimized for the Windows 95 environment," added Sheehan. "What's more, we've proved in a powerful way the usefulness of the three-button form factor. Logitech's MouseMan 96 definitely sets a new standard."
MouseMan 96 also enhances productivity under Windows 3.1 and DOS. In the DOS environment, for example, the Helix Cloaking memory management included in MouseWare 7.1 frees up conventional memory, allowing users to run memory-hungry applications such as games.
System requirements for MouseMan 96 include an IBM or compatible system with a 386 processor or above, Windows 95, Windows 3.1, or DOS and an available serial (COM) or Mouse (PS/2) port.
