BMC Software's application and data management products to be resold by HP's Professional Services Organization

Business Wire, Feb 20, 1996

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 1996--BMC Software Inc. (NASDAQ:BMCS) and Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) Tuesday announced that they have expanded their existing relationship with a contract allowing HP's Professional Services Organization to resell and provide implementation and integration services for BMC Software's application and data management products including PATROL, the MetaSUITE(TM) family of products, and SQLTrax.

This complements HP's current ability to provide customers with complete, tightly integrated solutions for managing networks, systems, applications and databases.

"As a company that has been committed to the HP OpenView line of products for enterprise management solutions and is now making more extensive use of BMC products in the same arena, we are pleased to see the relationship between the two companies grow," said George Sullivan, vice president and manager of Citicorp's Global Systems and Network Management Resource Center.

"This relationship ensures tight integration between PATROL and HP OpenView, making it easier and more efficient for us to manage our system and mission-critical applications. And it's a real plus that we can work with the same group of Professional Services Organization consultants who are familiar with our business and computing environment to also provide support for PATROL."

"The Professional Services Organization focuses on designing and delivering open, distributed computing environments for our customers," said Glenn R. Osaka, general manager of HP's Professional Services Organization. "These customers need a reliable way to manage their data, RDBMSs, and business-critical applications in these environments. We decided to resell BMC's products because of their tight integration with the HP OpenView Solution Framework and the complementary functionality those products offer our customers in the areas of application and data management."

"HP's Professional Services Organization is highly regarded in the marketplace for providing quality service and advancing client/server solutions to new levels of sophistication," said Leland Putterman, vice president of marketing for BMC Software. "By integrating our products with the HP OpenView Solutions Framework and by making them available through the Professional Services Organization, customers can take full advantage of HP and BMC's complementary solutions to better manage their networks, systems, applications and databases in their distributed computing environments."

HP's Professional Services Organization

HP's Professional Services Organization assists customers with the fundamental infrastructure changes needed to make a successful transition to open client/server computing. The group's consultants have the broad experience and expertise required to ensure that appropriate technologies, supporting processes, and properly trained personnel are in place for a successful implementation and transition.

A critical part of transitioning to a distributed computing environment is management. When working with customers, HP's Professional Services Organization will lead with the HP OpenView Solution Framework as the foundation for network, system, application and database management.

For customers who have made an investment in, or desire the complementary functionality provided by BMC Software, HP's Professional Services Organization can now offer BMC Software's products as complementary components of the solution. This process will involve selling, installing, customizing and supporting the product or products.

BMC Software Products in the Agreement

The BMC Software products included in this agreement are PATROL, the MetaSUITE line of products, and SQLTrax.

PATROL automates and centralizes the control of all the critical elements in distributed application management --- applications, data, databases and servers. The PATROL architecture consists of intelligent autonomous agent(s), KM(s) and management console(s).

KMs are encapsulated expertise about how to manage objects in the environment. KMs provide the agent with more product-specific information, allowing a single agent to manage all the components and objects associated with a server. Customers have the flexibility to use the PATROL console or popular system and network management consoles such as HP OpenView to view and manage their environments.

The MetaSUITE is a family of data management products that enable the proactive and efficient administration, movement, optimization and protection of distributed heterogeneous data. The first two products are MetaDESK(TM) and MetaMANAGE(TM) with additional products to be delivered in 1996.

MetaDESK provides a robust administrative foundation for efficient, consistent database discovery, monitoring and browsing across multiple heterogeneous databases. MetaMANAGE provides advanced database administration and manipulation across multiple heterogeneous environments while masking the differences among RDBMSs in executing specific management tasks.
