Cisco Systems to incorporate DataBeam's T.120 Multi-point technology into Cisco IOS Software
Business Wire, Feb 26, 1996
LEXINGTON, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 1996--DataBeam Corp. today announced that Cisco Systems, Inc. has licensed DataBeam's T.120-based Collaborative Computing Toolkit Series (CCTS(tm)) and is integrating the toolkits' real-time data exchange capabilities into the Cisco Internetwork Operating System (Cisco IOS(tm)) software.
DataBeam's Collaborative Computing Toolkit Series is a set of software development tools that provide the foundation for applications involving real-time data exchange between multiple locations and networks. By integrating CCTS into Cisco IOS software, users will be able to take advantage of multi-point applications, including jointly editing documents from remote locations, and participating in multi-player, network-based entertainment. The need for real-time collaborative computing capabilities is especially important as users become more dispersed, working from home, a hotel or customer site.
Cisco is also incorporating DataBeam's technology in a recently announced two-year cooperative effort with 11 Japanese companies, a Japanese University and DataBeam, to develop technologies for the use of multimedia applications over wide-area networks. The project will incorporate DataBeam's products and key networking communication standards, including T.120 and RSVP (Resource Reservation Protocol). DataBeam's technology, based on the T.120 standards for multi-point communications established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is a series of communication and application protocols and services that provide support for real-time, multi-point sharing of information. The standards provide an open set of protocols for establishing, servicing, and managing the simultaneous delivery of data between multiple users connected via LAN, WAN or dial-up networks. More than 100 vendors have announced their support for the T.120 standards. DataBeam Corporation, headquartered in Lexington, Ky., is the leading supplier of standards-based collaborative software technologies and developers' tools. The company's award-winning Collaborative Computing Toolkits Series provides real-time collaboration capabilities to third-party communications, networking, telephony, conferencing and gaming products. DataBeam's multi-point conferencing application software, FarSite, is used by Fortune 500 companies and major organizations worldwide. The company, founded in 1983, is privately held.
Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) is the leading global supplier of internetworking solutions, including routers, LAN and ATM switches, dial-up access servers and network management software. These products, integrated by the CISCO IOS software, link geographically dispersed LANs, WANs and IBM networks. Cisco news and product/service information are available at World Wide Web site http://www.cisco.com. Cisco is headquartered in San Jose, California.
