Eli Eco Logic Inc. Announces Commercial PCB Waste Destruction
Business Wire, Feb 9, 1996
TORONTO, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 9, 1996--ELI ECO LOGIC INC. (TSE: ELI CANADIAN DEALING NETWORK: ELII.WT.A ) ELI Eco Logic Inc. (ECO LOGIC) announced today that its SE25 ELI DESTRUCTOR and Sequencing Batch Vaporizer (SBV) located in Western Australia is successfully processing high strength PCB liquids, transformer fluids, bulk PCB solids including electrical capacitors, and high strength DDT waste pesticide mixtures. The SE25 ELI DESTRUCTOR and SBV, utilizing the ECO LOGIC Process, will continue processing of these wastes for Australian utilities and other customers.
Dr. Douglas Hallett, President and CEO of ECO LOGIC stated: "The refinements and improvements we have made to our first commercial unit during the past few months have had the desired results. Over the past 19 days we have successfully processed 15.8 tonnes of PCB contaminated electrical equipment for Western Australia's power utility using our modified 9-drum capacity SBV and the SE25 ELI DESTRUCTOR, 4.4 tonnes of high strength DDT liquids and 6.4 tonnes of contaminated watery wastes.
The high strength liquid DDT waste was processed at a peak rate of 2.9 tonnes per day and at a 24 hour sustained rate of 2.2 tonnes per day. The unit processed hazardous waste material for 69 percent of the two week period ending February 9. Over the coming weeks, we intend to increase these daily rates. The performance of the modified SBV along with the modified SE25 DESTRUCTOR has shown that we have a world-first non-incineration, continuous process for safe destruction of PCB contaminated wastes."
Mr. Denis Glennon, Managing Director, Environmental Solutions International Ltd. (ECO LOGIC's joint venture partner in Australia) said: "Continuing success will ensure the ECO LOGIC Process will capture the largest slice of the hazardous waste destruction projects in Australia and New Zealand, estimated currently to be well in excess of $50 million."
ECO LOGIC's second SE25 ELI DESTRUCTOR, together with two 27-drum capacity SBVs, is scheduled to commence operations shortly at the General Motors of Canada Limited site in St. Catharines. Dr. Hallett stated: "Initially, ECO LOGIC will be processing PCB liquids and contaminated bulk solids at the GM site.
The SE25 ELI DESTRUCTOR and two SBVs located at the GM site have been designed with greater capacity than our Australian DESTRUCTOR and single SBV. We are also in the process of completing construction of our first commercial sized Thermal Reduction Mill (TRM) for delivery to the GM site. The TRM will be utilized with the SE25 ELI DESTRUCTOR for processing soils and settled solids."
ECO LOGIC is also continuing development work for the U.S. Army to establish the application of the ECO LOGIC Process to the Army's Chemical Demilitarization Program for the destruction of chemical warfare agents such as mustard and nerve gas. Dr. Hallett stated: "The chemical demilitarization and mixed waste markets represent an enormous opportunity for ECO LOGIC. Together with our strategic marketing partner, Science Applications International Corporation, we are working to expand our presence in this market. Options we are reviewing include teaming up with a major industrial company as an equity partner in these markets."
ECO LOGIC solves toxic chemical problems in a cost-effective manner with innovative technology. The ECO LOGIC Process is a proprietary, mobile, chemical reduction technology for on-site conversion of organic hazardous wastes into reusable or disposable products. This cost-effective non-incineration process has high public and regulatory acceptability. The worldwide market includes PCBs, electrical equipment, contaminated soils, chemical warfare agents, petrochemical wastes, certain radioactive mixed wastes, and municipal sludge.
