Business Wire, Jan 10, 1996
WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 10, 1996--FOCUS Enhancements, Inc. (NASDAQ: FCSE, FCSEW) (BSE: FCS, FCSW) announced today that its new product the LAN Ranger that solves the problems many remote users have in accessing an Ethernet network is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 1996. The LAN Ranger is a three port PPP Remote Access Server that allows access to corporate network resources from any remote location over standard telephone lines at speeds up to 115.2 Kbps.
The unit has three serial ports for connection to standard modems. Once connected, the user becomes a remote node on the network. For example, field sales people can call in using a notebook computer, and access appropriate pricing and inventory status from a company's server. Files can be transferred to and from the remote user's computer, and even between servers at headquarters, as though the user was sitting at their desk.
The LAN Ranger also features complete dial out capabilities. Once on the network, the remote user can dial out through the modem attached to the LAN Ranger, and access the Internet or other online services.
Any combination of dial in/dial out users are supported. For example, a company can use the LAN Ranger as an Internet or online communications server, with up to three concurrent connections (one per serial port) supported.
The LAN Ranger supports connection to an Ethernet network through either its 10BaseT or BNC Coaxial port. The LAN Ranger includes an unlimited license for FOCUS PPP client software for MACS that allow users MAC Chooser level remote access to AppleTalk resources. It can also be deployed in PC or UNIX environments with the simple addition of any PC compatible PPP software.
