Dow Jones Telerate sets new standard in real-time technical analysis

Business Wire, Jan 12, 1996

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 12, 1996--For a decade, Dow Jones Telerate's TeleTrac has been the global standard in real-time technical analysis. Now there's a new standard. TeleTrac TradeStation, launched today, is the world's most powerful technical-analysis trading software. A remarkably easy to use Microsoft Windows-based product, it possesses unparalleled charting and analytical power.

TeleTrac TradeStation monitors price changes, tick-by-tick, in dozens of markets; signals buy and sell opportunities; generates orders; keeps track of trades and reports open- position profit or loss--all in real-time. With the click of a mouse, traders can use TeleTrac TradeStation's 150 built-in functions, such as studies, indicators and mathematical routines. Visual and audible alerts automatically signal buy or sell opportunities 24 hours a day, based on whatever criteria a user selects. An alert trigger can be as simple as a key price level, or as sophisticated as a multi-study technical trading system.

"After consulting with a broad range of customers to understand their needs, we developed TeleTrac TradeStation to run on the Telerate Workstation, so we can offer on a single terminal the best technical-analysis trading software together with access to all of our news, commentary and price information," said Julian Childs, chief operating officer of Dow Jones Telerate. "This is a major advance for Telerate and, more importantly, for our customers, who have a powerful new tool to increase the profitability of their trades."

Market participants can test the performance of trading systems, standard or customized, without risking a penny. TeleTrac TradeStation's powerful historical testing feature will run a trading system against market conditions for a variety of past periods and produce a detailed performance summary. A trader can see how much money was made or lost in the simulated transactions, as well as the dollar amounts of the biggest winning and losing trades, the number of trades made and how many were profitable and unprofitable.

The exclusive EasyLanguage feature allows users to enter custom studies and formulas, modify standard indicators and create complex, customized trading systems without programming knowledge. Expert Help, a built-in teaching system, will display an explanation of charts and studies, including whether market activity indicates a bullish, bearish or neutral trend.

Developed jointly by Dow Jones Telerate and Omega Research Inc., creator of the popular System Writer, SuperCharts and TradeStation software, TeleTrac TradeStation has been designed for users of all skill levels.

"When we introduced our DOS-based TeleTrac technical analysis terminal 10 years ago, it became the most used real-time technical analysis product in the world," Mr. Childs said. "With its combination of global financial information from Dow Jones Telerate and award winning software from Omega Research, we expect even greater success for TeleTrac TradeStation."
