Tricord offers highly scalable Lotus Notes NT server
Business Wire, Jan 22, 1996
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 22, 1996--Tricord Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:TRCD) Monday announced the availability of one of the most scalable Lotus Notes solutions on Windows NT in the industry. Lotus Notes is the world's leading messaging and groupware product.
Tricord's SMP enterprise server solution for Notes Release 4 and Microsoft's Windows NT 3.51 lets IS departments handle higher numbers of users on fewer servers, or consolidate existing servers, saving thousands of dollars in administrative and support costs annually.
Independent disk I/O, network I/O and raw computing power deliver the performance needed to support hundreds of users and allow the system to grow as application workload increases, without degrading response time.
"Enterprise Lotus Notes environments require a powerful computing platform that can provide sustained performance with high availability," Dr. Cory Devor, vice president, systems development, Tricord, said.
"The more users and applications, the more critical the consistent availability of that system is. Beyond this, the PowerFrame's balanced architecture is prepared to take on bandwidth-hungry, high-throughput Notes applications that involve large data types or database access," Devor said.
Tricord's PowerFrame Enterprise Server is ideal for companies with enterprise- or division-wide Notes database applications used by large numbers of employees. The high-performance single-chassis platform is also designed for organizations running multiple Notes databases, or Notes databases combined with other data-intensive applications, such as relational database systems from Oracle, Microsoft, Sybase and Informix.
"The Tricord PowerFrame with Windows NT offers large Notes installations customers a highly scalable server that will support high-performance and I/O throughput," said Steve Sayre, vice president, Communications Products Marketing, Lotus Development Corp. "The high performance, bandwidth and scalability of Tricord's PowerFrame Enterprise Server translate into reduced costs, improved efficiency and increased productivity for large Notes enterprises."
The PowerFrame's Multiprocessing Accelerator Technology, a design feature of the system's CPU/Cache Subsystem, maximizes the multithreaded capabilities of Lotus Notes R4. Up to eight 133 MHz Pentium processors, each with two megabytes of dedicated second-level cache, deliver the computing power needed for large numbers of users or multiple Notes applications.
Standard with each PowerFrame are high-availability features and a powerful Intelligent Management Subsystem, which together ensure information accessibility, protect data assets, simplify server administration and maximize system uptime.
Tricord's independent dedicated disk and network I/O subsystems provide optimum replication and user response times. This feature is critical with the new multiple replicator process capability of Notes R4, allowing the PowerFrame to operate as a powerful hub in a very large distributed environment.
Nearly a terabyte of storage capacity in PowerFrame's Intelligent Storage Subsystem supports multiple databases and large data objects. In addition, up to one gigabyte of memory enables real-time support for hundreds of users.
Tricord Systems designs, manufactures, markets and supports the PowerFrame Enterprise Server for use in mission-critical OLTP, OLAP, media and file/print applications running on Microsoft Windows NT and Novell NetWare. All PowerFrame systems are characterized by an open system design with emphashis on system management, fault tolerance, high performance and scalability.
