Loral Awarded $110 Million Contract For Support Services At Air Force Cheyenne Mountain Complex

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 22, 1996--Loral Command and Control Systems, a division of Loral Corporation (NYSE:LOR), has been awarded a $110 million contract from the U.S. Air Force Space Command to provide engineering and technical services at the Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs.
This program win is important because it recognizes Loral as a major contributor to the evolution and sustainment of Cheyenne Mountain, which is a vital part of the nation's missile warning and defense system. Loral expects that this program will lead to additional opportunities to modernize and reduce maintenance and operating costs of Space Command mission areas.

Under a five-year, indefinite quantity contract known as the Integrated Systems Support Contract, Loral will provide sustaining engineering, system modifications, maintenance services, software upgrades and training for the integrated tactical warning and attack assessment mission area at Cheyenne Mountain. The mission area combines more than 20 electronic systems and subsystems that perform a variety of tasks, including data processing, information management and communications.
Loral and its team will provide emergency on-site maintenance in Cheyenne Mountain and at other worldwide locations. In addition, the company will be responsible for overseeing the use of commercial off-the-shelf computer software at the site.
Loral's team on the project includes SAIC, Kaman Sciences, ARINC and Telos, all with offices in the Colorado Springs area. Telos also has field offices that will support distant-end locations with maintenance support as required. Three small businesses supporting this effort are from the local region: University of Southern Colorado, Northern NEF and Kimbrough Solutions. A fourth, REDCON, is based in Bountiful, Utah.
Loral Command and Control Systems, Colorado Springs, Colo., is one of the Air Force's primary contractors in command and control, and develops and supports strategic and tactical command, control and communications systems in the areas of space defense, strategic force management and fixed and transportable command and control centers. The company has been under contract with the Sacramento Air Logistics Center, McClellan Air Force Base, Calif., and the Air Force Space Command, Colorado Springs, Colo., on a number of space and mission warning programs for more than 33 years. Recently, Loral completed the installation of the upgraded Space Defense Operations Center at Cheyenne Mountain.
