Business Wire, Jan 24, 1996

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 24, 1996-- Strengthening its position as a provider of servers for database management solutions, NEC Technologies today announced the availability of the uniVerse relational database management system provided by VMARK Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: VMRK), on the NEC RISC systems platform running Windows NT.

VMARK Software is a provider of database management systems, object-oriented application development tools and data access middleware for the client/server environment.

NEC Technologies manufactures and markets RISC-based workstations and servers that run exclusively on Microsoft Windows NT. Featuring NEC's Multi-RISC Plus symmetric multi-processing architecture, these systems incorporate up to four MIPS Vr4400 microprocessors operating at 200 MHZ, enable multiple instruction execution, and support a 64-bit architecture that optimizes data processing while minimizing faults.

Employing a multidimensional database structure, uniVerse incorporates industry-standard relational database management system features with powerful easy to use capabilities. Its advanced architecture employs a unique data structure that is designed to handle complex data types.

All VMARK products are backed by a comprehensive suite of service offerings. Business objects, represented by data types, are processed in an efficient manner resulting in high performance. This architecture also yields equally high-performance for analysis and decision support applications.

Jeff Solinger, manager database and middleware marketing of NEC Technologies says, "By making VMARK's uniVerse available on the NEC and Windows NT platform, and NEC and VMARK are now providing business professionals with an affordable, high-performance, scalable solution to meet their database management requirements in a distributed computing environment."

"We are very excited about the availability of uniVerse on NEC's high-performance systems, including the dual and quad processor models on the NEC and Windows NT platform," agrees Thomas Palka, vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at VMARK Software. The combination of the NEC RISC systems and Windows NT offers our customers a reliable, low-priced choice for database management server requirements."
