Gartner Group, Information Week and Expocon To Sponsor iEC Awards; Awards Will Recognize Outstanding Internet Applications For Electronic Commerce

FAIRFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 1996--Gartner Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: GART) and Expocon Management Associates, organizers of the Internet & Electronic Commerce Conference & Exposition (iEC), today announced the iEC Awards to recognize outstanding Internet applications for electronic commerce. Award recipients will be announced at a banquet celebration on the opening night of the iEC show in San Francisco, September 4-6. Expocon and Gartner Group jointly manage and produce the show.
The award also is sponsored by InformationWeek, a leading publication for corporate technology managers.
"The landscape of the Internet provides companies with tremendous revenue-generating opportunities," said Clinton Wilder, senior editor, Net Commerce/Online Services, InformationWeek. "These awards will honor the front-runners who have achieved a competitive edge in the market place through their innovative use of this emerging technology."
iEC exhibitors can nominate their customers, Web site designers and end-users for the iEC Awards. Winners and runners-up will be recognized in the following categories: Electronic Commerce over the Internet, Internet Infrastructure, Intranet Solutions and New Media Marketing and Selling on the Internet.
"The Internet is quickly becoming an important new medium for business transactions, and the iEC Awards will examine applications contributing to the electronic commerce evolution," said Vic Wheatman, vice president, electronic commerce strategies, Gartner Group.
Applications were mailed to exhibitors and are available on the Expocon Home Page (http://www.expocon.com). Information about the iEC Awards also will be available on the Gartner Group Home Page (http://www.gartner.com).
Nominations are due July 26, 1996 and will be judged by a panel of Gartner Group analysts, InformationWeek editors and iEC show managers. Finalists will be announced in mid-August.
The finalists' Web sites will be showcased in an interactive pavilion on the iEC show floor. The media also can view the award-winning applications in the iEC press room.
