Business Wire, July 11, 1996

SAUSALITO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 11, 1996--Furthering its commitment to bring valuable and comprehensive resources to its users, The McKinley Group today unveiled significant enhancements to its Magellan Internet guide (http://www.mckinley.com). McKinley has added a service called "Finder," which provides access to telephone and e-mail directories to its main screen to provide visitors with more than 112 million listings of people, government offices and businesses. Finder is developed by InfoSpace, Inc. The Magellan database also has been upgraded to return the most accurate information to all levels of queries. And, for Internet users curious to know more about the interests of fellow surfers, Magellan's new Search Voyeur feature offers a glimpse at other visitors' keyword searches.

People and Business Directory

To help facilitate online communication, Magellan now offers its users access to the Magellan Finder people and business directory. Users can locate complete addresses, telephone numbers, toll free and fax numbers of friends and colleagues. Future features of this service will include an email address directory and will allow users to request a street map indicating the location of any address retrieved. Magellan Finder is fast and easy to use, retrieving listings by name, address or telephone number. Non-listed and private numbers are not included in Magellan Finder.

"McKinley offers ease of use and editorial expertise to rescue Internet users from information overload and guide them to the top sites and resources," asserts David Hayden, chairman of McKinley. "The Magellan Finder service is one of these resources, providing users with quick, accurate telephone and e-mail listings on the Web."

Search Voyeur

Internet users and marketers will be interested in Magellan's new Search Voyeur feature, which allows users to find interesting summaries of the most popular searches conducted by other users. Search Voyeur is accessible from the Magellan home page. It generates real-time lists (refreshed every 20 seconds) of current subjects being searched, giving visitors insight into the concerns and interests of fellow surfers.

Increased Functionality

Magellan's "smart" spider is programmed to recognize a number of related words or groups of words in the database for any single word entered for a search. Users initiating a search will receive both a list of direct matches in order of relevancy and a list of conceptually associated topics to effectively pinpoint specific areas of interest. This advanced inquiry directs the user to the most pertinent information, rather than conducting simple word-match counts.

About Magellan

Magellan is the product of a marriage between McKinley's proprietary search technology and its unique editorial process. Sites in the Magellan guide are reviewed and rated by a highly informed editorial staff, with expertise in topical areas. The resulting site evaluations not only provide users with in-depth information, but also a human voice. Magellan recently introduced the concept of the "Green Light" indicator. Sites in Magellan bearing the Green Light icon have been identified as being free of adult-oriented content at the time of their review. In addition to the 40,000 reviewed and rated sites, Magellan contains over 15 million URLs.
