Seagate NerveCenter Pro Is First Event Correlation System to Take Advantage of H-P's Distributed Network Node Manager; Critical Event Correlation and Filtering Features of Seagate NerveCenter Pro 2.6 Enhance Deployment of H-P OpenView NNM 4.1
Business Wire, July 15, 1996
CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 15, 1996--A new version of the Seagate NerveCenter Pro event correlation system from Seagate Software, Network and Systems Management Group (NSMG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Seagate Technology Inc., is the first to provide event correlation and filtering for Hewlett-Packard's distributed OpenView Network Node Manager 4.1. Operating with NNM 4.1, Seagate NerveCenter Pro Version 2.6 uses Seagate Behavior Models to correlate network conditions, identify critical problems, filter out superfluous events and take appropriate actions across the enterprise network.
By cross-correlating data collected from network devices, UNIX systems, and Windows NT and Novell NetWare servers, Seagate NerveCenter Pro can automatically identify the cause of a problem that previously required operator analysis, and distribute a single alert message to the operator in place of multiple alarms.
HP's OpenView NNM 4.1 can distribute network management among NNMs on several networks and subnetworks to provide a combined multi-tier and peer-to-peer management capability. Because Seagate NerveCenter Pro was designed to operate in a distributed environment, the software can take full advantage of new NNM capabilities to forward discover, monitoring and event information about managed devices from one NNM to another over a local or wide-area network.
Bob Quillin, Seagate Software, NSMG director of product marketing, said, "Because Seagate NerveCenter Pro is the event correlation system of choice for OpenView users, it was critical for us to be among the first H-P partners to support the distributed Network Node Manager. Many OpenView users have postponed installing NNM 4.1 until they could correlate and filter the high volume of alarms and events generated across multiple networks and subnets."
Administrators and operators can use Seagate NerveCenter Pro 2.6 along with the distributed discovery, interdomain and map-filtering features of NNM 4.1 to focus on specific types or groups of devices and subnets. In conjunction with the NNM 4.1 selective event distribution capability, alarms and events can be correlated locally and distributed selectively across the enterprise network. As a result, traffic on the WAN is reduced, and only appropriate information is delivered to network management stations. Seagate NerveCenter Pro can also manage and correlate messages collected from UNIX systems by the OpenView OperationsCenter (OpC) system management platform. Notification of correlated events can be sent to both NNM and OpC consoles.
Predefined behavior models are intregal to Seagate NerveCenter Pro, including the first-ever security and Web behavior models for managing the integrity and availability of corporate intranets. Seagate NerveCenter Pro 2.6 is available immediately for operation on HP-UX platforms. A follow-on release scheduled for September will operate on SunOS and Solaris platforms as well. An enterprise license is priced at $15,000.
