Interphase participates in largest-ever Department of Defense networking contract
Business Wire, July 18, 1996
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 18, 1996--Interphase Corp. (NASDAQ/NMS:INPH), a leader in providing high-performance standards- based Asynchronous Transfer Mode adapters for workstations and servers, has announced its participation with Telos Corp. in the largest Department of Defense network-integration contract ever awarded.
The contract includes server, peripheral and networking hardware and software applicable to a wide variety of information-technology and office-automation purposes.
Under the agreement, the Telos Network Integration Solutions business unit (NIS) is authorized to bid Interphase products into the government's Small Multi-User Computer SMC II contract. NIS, an outgrowth of Telos' full lifecycle systems-integration and service capabilities, focuses on large-scale network-integration efforts, including local-area and wide-area communications.
Interphase currently has two products available through the SMC II contract. The company's 5515 PCI ATM Adapter provides full duplex 155 Mbps ATM connectivity for most PCI-compliant systems, from PC clones to Power Macintoshes to powerful multiprocessing servers.
The adapter supports MacOS, Windows NT, Windows 95 and Novell NetWare. Future planned support includes Windows for WorkGroups, AIX, IRIX, SCO UNIX and HP-UX.
Interphase's M800 FDDI Concentrator is also available through the SMC II contract. The M800 provides users in an FDDI power workgroup the ability to transfer large amounts of data in a fast and reliable manner.
An FDDI performance workgroup connects workstations, servers and minicomputers through one or more FDDI Concentrators. Typical workgroup configurations include a stand-alone M800 supporting multiple workstations or an M800 functioning as a high-speed backbone for enterprise servers and routers.
Interphase is a leading supplier of desktop and server I/O products for high-speed networks. The company is a principal member of The ATM Forum, a founding member of the Desktop ATM25 Alliance and steering committee member of the ATM Consortium at the University of New Hampshire's Interoperability Lab.
Interphase is a leading proponent of fostering ATM interoperability in the industry and sponsors multivendor interoperability test sessions at its corporate facilities in Dallas. Interphase was recently ranked as the No. 2 supplier of ATM adapters in North America by Dataquest (June 1995).
