Synbiotics Corp. initiates employee benefits for veterinary care

Business Wire, July 2, 1996

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1996--Synbiotics Corp. (NASDAQ:SBIO) Tuesday announced that the company is initiating an employee-benefit program to assist with covering the cost of veterinary care for employees' pets.

Under this program, employees will be reimbursed for pet care provided by a licensed veterinarian.

``Our business is developing, manufacturing and marketing animal health diagnostics and vaccines, and we want to encourage people to obtain the finest veterinary care for their pets,'' stated Kenneth M. Cohen, chief executive officer. ``We are demonstrating our commitment by starting a program with our own employees.

``We are hoping that programs such as this one will bring some recognition to the current status of companion-animal health care,'' added Cohen.

``For example, it is estimated that only a small percentage of dogs and cats are tested for canine heartworm or feline leukemia. These diseases claim the lives of numerous family pets each year, even though they can be easily diagnosed and, in most cases, prevented. Pets should be seen by a veterinarian regularly for appropriate testing, vaccinations and other care.''

Synbiotics is a leading supplier of animal health diagnostics and vaccines. The company recently announced an improvement in its ICT GOLD HW canine heartworm diagnostic test kit and a new ICT GOLD FeLV feline leukemia test kit. These convenient, easy-to-use kits, which are formatted much like home pregnancy tests, allow veterinarians to obtain test results in minutes.

Synbiotics develops, manufactures and markets advanced animal health products under its own name in the United States and internationally through licensees.
