Business Wire, July 2, 1996

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1996--On July 1, 1996, the IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Standards Committee approved, by letter ballot vote, Draft 4.0 of the 802.11 specification.

Proxim commends this significant milestone toward the development of an industry-wide standard for interoperable wireless LAN products.

Proxim, a voting member of the 802.11 committee since December 1990, has been an active participant and technology contributor, providing such innovations as its technique for high-speed data transmission -- dual mode 4GFSK/2GFSK frequency hopping.

This fall, Proxim will outline plans for a new 802.11 product line, including its coexistence and interoperability with RangeLAN2. The company's 802.11 offering will have as its foundation a high-performance 2Mbps frequency hopping architecture.

"Proxim and our partners have been long-standing proponents of multivendor interoperability resulting in a wide array of compatible wireless LAN products that customers can deploy today," said Brian Button, vice president of marketing at Proxim.

"This 802.11 milestone, together with the increasing cooperation between vendors, brings the wireless LAN industry closer to delivering multivendor 802.11 networks to customers."
