Business Wire, July 23, 1996
WATERTOWN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 23, 1996--OneWave Inc. (NASDAQ: OWAV), a software solutions provider for the Internet, and Informix Software Inc. (NASDAQ: IFMX), the leading provider of innovative database technology, today announced their intention to introduce combined offerings targeting Web and intranet applications. These offerings will enable companies to integrate mission-critical business applications with an easy-to-use workgroup database solution for packaged applications. Today's announcement follows the recent introduction of intranet-enabled single-user and workgroup database solutions from Informix, and OneWave's selection as an Informix Workgroup Premier Partner.
OneWave will offer Web Workstation, a single-developer version of INFORMIX-OnLine Workstation and OneWave's OpenScape. The product will be designed specifically for desktop development and deployment of multi-tiered business applications in small branch offices or remote sites. Web Workstation will enable developers to build database and Web applications on their desktop, which can then easily be distributed and deployed throughout the enterprise using intranets and the Internet. An entry-level product, Web Workstation will be available from OneWave at a cost of $2,500 per developer for a limited time only.
Informix and OneWave will be jointly offering an Intranet Application Pilot Program to enable customers to rapidly pilot new-age intranet applications. This packaged offering will combine INFORMIX-OnLine Workgroup Server and OneWave's OpenScape and OpenExtension software, extending packaged applications from SAP, Baan, and PeopleSoft to enterprises, intranets and the Internet. This offering will also include the necessary product training and on-site consulting services needed to deliver a pilot of a customer' packaged applications to the Internet. The OnLine Workgroup Server features high-availability data replication to maximize access to critical data, essential when working with these industry-leading packaged business applications. "With OneWave and Informix, customers will have an easy solution for extending mission-critical packaged applications in a robust fashion on their intranets," said Brett Bachman, general manager Workgroup Solutions, Informix. "This is a reinforcement of Informix's commitment to not only provide high-performance database products, but to also deliver technology-based business solutions in step with the requirements of today's enterprises."
"Using these products, Informix's intranet/Internet customers will be able to benefit from OneWave's expertise in integrating and extending critical back-end business processes to more users within companies, regardless of their location or department," said John Burke, vice president of sales and marketing, OneWave Inc. "As workgroup technologies become more critical in today's enterprises, OneWave offers a viable, robust platform for extending applications to multiple company departments, be it via intranets or the Internet."
