Business Wire, July 29, 1996

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- July 29, 1996 - FileNet Corp. (Nasdaq NMS:FILE) today announced that it is now offering a version of FileNet Document Warehouse(TM) for SAP for the Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) Server operating system. FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP enables users to capture, process, and store document images and related information from SAP R/3 business applications, creating a common document repository across the enterprise.

With its Windows NT support, FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP brings the valuable capability of a new, strong price/performance platform for easily linking document imaging to R/3 enterprise systems. The product also offers a new, scalable, cost-effective client/server solution to the growing number of companies that have standardized on the Windows NT environment.

Seamlessly integrated with the SAP ArchiveLink feature and R/3 application modules, including Business Workflow, FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP supports R/3 release 2.1, 2.2, and 3.0 systems. FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP streamlines document-intensive work processes and enables organizations to replace paper and microfilm with the automated retrieval of images, data, text, and other electronic information right at each user's desktop. The software increases control of documents by protecting them against loss or damage once electronically archived. It also reduces data and file management costs as millions of paper documents can be managed cost-effectively on magnetic and optical storage. It also helps users increase productivity as manual handling of paper documents is eliminated through the networked use of electronic document images linked to each SAP R/3 business process.

"With its close integration to R/3 applications, FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP enhances customer investments in SAP enterprise environments by providing a powerful data and document-archiving solution for vital business information," said Jordan Libit, vice president of marketing at FileNet. "With its plug-and-play design, the software enables R/3 users to quickly add cost-effective, extensive document access capabilities and reduce data entry requirements, while also supporting corporate initiatives for deploying open, client/server systems such as Windows NT."

FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP is targeted for use in industries such as manufacturing, oil & gas, utilities, and local government for applications from invoice processing to technical document management.

"FileNet provides proven, outstanding document-imaging software solutions on a global basis, and we have worked closely with FileNet to develop their Document Warehouse for SAP, resulting in a certified, fully-integrated product," said Alex Ott, vice president of global partnerships at SAP America. "FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP brings R/3 users instant access to document images, as well as ease-of-use with its document-display capabilities from inside the familiar SAP user interface."

Microsoft Corporation will be installing FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP in its "SAP Center for Excellence," a showcase of SAP systems running on Microsoft platforms. According to Rich Noffsinger, worldwide document management industry manager at Microsoft, "FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP provides leading document-imaging capabilities to the fast-growing installed base of SAP R/3 customers on the Windows NT operating system. The combination of SAP R/3 and FileNet Document Warehouse is powerful because it supports business reengineering initiatives for improving document-driven processes across corporate Windows NT networks. This is directly in line with the strategy of Microsoft customers worldwide."

FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP software enables users to capture paper documents as electronic images and supports a wide variety of document scanners. Incoming and outgoing faxes, print lists generated in SAP, and archive data can all be automatically captured and filed onto magnetic and optical storage using FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP. Fax documents and data files, such as CAD drawings, can also be archived, indexed within R/3, and retrieved instantly. With FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP, documents and data stored on magnetic and optical disk by FileNet image management software are linked to records in the R/3 system. Document images can be viewed in either the FileNet or SAP display windows on any user s desktop throughout the enterprise.

FileNet Image Management Services (IMS) software provides the storage, retrieval, and database management services for FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP. IMS has a scalable architecture that allows for easy expansion of document-imaging applications, and centralized or distributed storage of document images. Along with its support of Microsoft Windows NT Server on Intel-based servers, FileNet Document Warehouse for SAP supports other industry-standard servers and operating systems, including HP 9000 and HP-UX, IBM RS/6000 and AIX/6000, and Sun SparcServer and Solaris.
