SystemSoft develops first and only "Plug and Play" PC Card software for Windows NT 4.0; Leading mobile PC manufacturers to ship CardWizard for Windows NT by Fall Comdex
Business Wire, July 31, 1996
NATICK, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 1996--SystemSoft(R) Corporation (NASDAQ: SYSF), the world's leading supplier of PC Card (PCMCIA) conflict resolution and configuration software, today announced CardWizard(tm) for Windows(R) NT, the industry's first and only "Plug and Play" product for PC Cards supporting Microsoft's(R) new Windows NT 4.0 operating system.
CardWizard for Windows NT incorporates advanced features like hot-swapping, automatic resource configuration and the advanced level of PC Card recognition found in SystemSoft's current PC Card product family -- CardSoft and CardWizard for DOS/Windows and CardWorks for Windows 95.
SystemSoft has completed CardWizard for Windows NT licensing agreements with many leading notebook manufacturers who are currently integrating the product with notebook computers that will ship by Fall Comdex. General availability of CardWizard for Windows NT to PC original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) is scheduled for the third quarter of 1996. CardWizard for Windows NT is currently being evaluated by notebook computer manufacturers worldwide, and in conjunction with Microsoft is being promoted at various venues. Analysts project that Windows NT 4.0 will ship on greater than 10 percent of all notebook computers within the first twelve months of release.
"CardWizard for Windows NT puts SystemSoft in a great position to take advantage of the corporate migration to Windows NT on mobile systems," said Bob Angelo, president and CEO of SystemSoft Corp. "With many large organizations planning to shift directly from Windows 3.1 to Windows NT 4.0 we foresaw a need for computer OEMs to provide their customers with PC Card Plug and Play and compatibility that is comparable to what is currently achieved with Windows 3.1 and Windows 95. SystemSoft, through its unique relationship with Microsoft, is providing value beyond the operating system by supplying early plug and play features to Windows NT 4.0 with CardWizard for Windows NT, SystemWizard for NT and Power Profiler for NT."
Meeting End-User Expectations
CardWizard for Windows NT significantly extends and complements the PC Card support provided in Windows NT 4.0. The product is architected specifically for Microsoft's Windows NT operating system. It incorporates advanced features currently found in SystemSoft's market leading PC Card family of products, and demanded by today's notebook computer users. These include:
-- PC Card Hot Swapping - End users demand the ability to insert and remove PC Cards while operating their system. CardWizard for NT provides this valuable ease of use feature.
-- Automatic PC Card Resource Conflict Resolution - SystemSoft's earlier CardWizard products have become standard utilities for Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 mobile PC users. CardWizard for Windows NT 4.0 will diagnose and resolve many common PC Card configuration problems for NT users.
-- Simplified PC Card Management - CardWizard simplifies the job of end-users, MIS managers and technical support personnel by collecting and displaying significant information about PC Card resource requirements.
-- Industry's Broadest PC Card Support - CardWizard supports all PC Cards currently enabled for Windows NT 4.0 - without driver modification. CardBus, Flash and Zoomed Video cards will also be supported as they become available.
