Business Wire, July 31, 1996
IRVINE, Calif.,--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 1996--The Computer Systems Division of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc. (TAIS) Wednesday announced notebook support for Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0.
Later this year, Toshiba plans to begin offering high-performance portables with Windows NT pre-installed to corporate accounts that request it.
Windows NT provides users with a powerful 32-bit operating system for business computing. A viable option for portable computers, it offers high performance and industrial level reliability and security.
"Our corporate accounts use their notebooks as their primary systems," said Tom Scott, vice president and general manager of Toshiba's Computer Systems Division: "They are running powerful 32-bit applications and exploiting exciting new technologies including complex graphics, advanced multimedia and accessing the Internet.
"Our high-performance Toshiba notebooks and Windows NT will deliver a powerful mobile platform to customers."
"Portables represent a unique and challenging operating environment with regard to power management, plug and play and suspend/resume functionality," said Jeffrey Friederichs, vice president of marketing worldwide for Toshiba's Computer Systems Group.
"Toshiba will continue its long-term strategic relationship with Microsoft to develop enhanced support in these areas, just as we worked together to incorporate hot docking into Windows 95 with the introduction of the industry's first hot docking PCI machine, the Tecra 700."
"We are pleased that Toshiba, the world's leading portable computer manufacturer, plans to support Microsoft Windows NT Workstation 4.0 on its high-performance notebooks," said Jonathan Roberts, director of desktop marketing at Microsoft. "In addition, we look forward to continuing our strong relationship with Toshiba, in providing innovative technology to mobile customers."
