Acrodyne Communications, Inc. announces agreement with Zenith Electronics Corporation
Business Wire, July 31, 1996
BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 31, 1996--Acrodyne Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACRO), a domestic and international supplier of television transmitters for the broadcast industry, has been developing its product line of low, medium and high power VHF and UHF transmitters for introduction as High Definition Advanced Television (HDTV) products poised for the approval of this new format. The new HDTV broadcast format proposed to the FCC by the "Grand Alliance" has the ability to provide theater quality television transmission and reception simultaneously with revenue generating auxiliary services.
To enhance timely introduction of the Company's HDTV transmitters at the National Association of Broadcasters Show in Las Vegas in April 1997, Acrodyne has entered into a non-exclusive cooperative agreement with Zenith Electronics Corporation of Glenview, Illinois (a member of the Grand Alliance and developer of the new transmission technology) to accept their technical assistance in using a Zenith modulator in Acrodyne's transmitter product line. A. Robert Mancuso, President and CEO of Acrodyne, stated "Using the Zenith modulator in our otherwise HDTV-ready product line allows us to meet our introduction goals ahead of schedule by melding the knowledge of the modulator experts with our own transmitter experts."
Approval of the new HDTV format and standard is currently under study by the FCC with approval expected shortly.
