Business Wire, July 8, 1996
BOTHELL, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 8, 1996--Traveling(R) Software Inc., a leading manufacturer of remote and Internet communications software, announced today the appointment of David W. Garrison, CEO, president and chairman of NETCOM On-Line Communication Service Inc. (NASDAQ:NETC), to its board of directors.
The addition of Garrison, who in his first year of leadership nearly quadrupled NETCOM's revenues to $52.4 million, bolsters Traveling Software's Internet expertise and comes just one month after Traveling's acquisition of Milktruck, LLC, a software development firm specializing in offline Web access technology. NETCOM is the largest direct Internet service provider (ISP) and has a subscriber base of more than 400,000.
"David's renaissance spirit in strengthening and expanding the infrastructure of NETCOM will be a tremendous asset to Traveling Software's board of directors," said Mark Eppley, CEO and chairman of Traveling Software.
"Traveling Software is forging ahead in developing remote and Web communications tools for on-the-go professionals. David's insight will help us track and respond quickly to Web trends, ensuring Traveling Software's leadership in providing unparalleled Web communications tools."
Garrison joined NETCOM in February 1995 as its president and director and two months later was promoted to CEO. He strategically began expanding NETCOM's alliances and quickly began carving out a large share of the ISP market by offering innovative programs and high quality service. Garrison was appointed in March to serve as chairman of the board for NETCOM.
"Traveling Software has developed an innovative approach to designing tools for remote network access," said Garrison. "I'm excited to be joining the board of this leading software company, and hope the experience I have gained through my work with NETCOM, SkyTel, and Dial Page will be beneficial to guiding Traveling Software's success in the future."
Before his success at NETCOM, Garrison spent four years as president of SkyTel, a division of Mobile Telecommunications, Inc., and through his aggressive leadership saw its subscriber base increase fourfold. Garrison also led Dial Page, a paging carrier in South Carolina, as its CEO, president and chairman from 1985 to 1990. Traveling Software was founded in 1982.
The company is a leading developer of remote access software that provides connectivity to private and public networks and individual desktop PCs. Available worldwide, Traveling Software's product line includes WebEx, LapLink for Windows 95, LapLink for Windows, LapLink Host and LapLink V for DOS.
