Denny's hits a Grand Slam with Pinnacle Full Motion Holograms
Business Wire, July 9, 1996
SPARTANBURG, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 1996--Denny's restaurants will step up to the plate again this summer in hopes of scoring a home run with customers during the chain's 1996 Instant Replay Hologram Baseball Cards promotion, which runs Aug. 1 through Oct. 2 or while supplies last.
Card designer and producer Pinnacle Brands, Inc. is adding motion to this year's Denny's set by creating the first baseball card to capture almost four seconds of memorable moments from the careers of baseball's finest players.
"Baseball cards have been a summer tradition at Denny's since 1991, offering our guests the latest in state-of-the-art hologram technology," said Jon Jameson, vice president of marketing for Denny's. "Thanks to our new partnership with Pinnacle, Denny's guests will be the first to experience the newly developed technology of full motion holograms."
Pinnacle teamed up with Major League Baseball's official video house to locate the most memorable footage for 28 player cards. The result looks like a video highlight reel of Hall of Fame feats.
"Collectors will get more than a card that captures their favorite players," said Brad Bartlett, Pinnacle's vice president of worldwide promotions. "These cards hold an instant replay of a top highlight from each player's career. Simply hold the card in direct sunlight and tilt it to reveal the motion."
With Denny's Instant Replay Hologram Baseball Cards, collectors can relive such baseball highlights as Cal Ripken Jr.'s home run from his record-breaking 2,131st consecutive game; the final Greg Maddux pitch that won the first game of the 1995 World Series; Albert Belle's Game 5 World Series home run off Maddux; Barry Bond's 300th career steal; Gary Sheffield's 1993 All-Star Game homer in the first at-bat by a Florida Marlin; Wade Boggs' 2,500th hit; Kirby Puckett's 2,000th hit and Joe Carter's 1993 World Series-winning home run against Philadelphia.
Also new for the 1996 season is an expanded card set. The 28 player cards will make up the regular issue set. Two chase sets will also be available. The Grand Slam Chase Set will be produced in smaller numbers. The set includes 10 cards picturing a player with bursting fireworks in the background. A still-rarer set of cards will take the same Grand Slam Chase Set and add an Artist's Proof logo, designating it as the most limited set of cards in the Denny's promotion. Grand Slam Chase Set holograms will appear once in every 56 packs while the Artist's Proof edition will show up just once in every 360 packs.
In addition, instant win cards will appear in selected card packs, awarding 1,500 complete sets and six pairs of World Series trips.
Tony Gwynn of the San Diego Padres and Sammy Sosa of the Chicago Cubs will be featured in national advertising for Denny's annual baseball card promotion. Information on the promotion including player lists is also available at the following the Internet address: http:\\www.dennyscards.com
Denny's customers can collect the Instant Replay Hologram Baseball Cards by visiting any of the more than 1,500 company and participating franchise restaurants. The cards are available for .49 cents each with the purchase of any Denny's entree and Coca-Cola Classic(R) or other non-alcoholic beverage. There is a limit of two cards per each qualifying purchase.
Denny's exclusive hologram baseball cards are authorized by the Major League Baseball Players Association and licensed by Major League Baseball.
Denny's, home of the $1.99 Original Grand Slam Breakfast(R), is the nation's largest full-service family restaurant chain with more than 1,500 company and franchise restaurants in the United States and six foreign countries. -0-
