Livermore Software's PORTUS Awarded Certification from National Computer Security Association; Distinguished Honor Validates Strength and Effectiveness of the Firewall Product

Business Wire, July 9, 1996

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 1996--Livermore Software Labs, a leading developer of network and Internet firewall security systems, today announced that its PORTUS(R) Version 2 firewall software system has earned certification from the National Computer Security Association (NCSA).

The distinction confirms PORTUS as a safe, effective and reliable product that withstands current Internet threats against networks.

Jim Livermore, president, said the testing and certification process is smart because it is peers judging peers. The testing and certification guidelines included input from the NCSA firewall developers consortium.

"It's important to be certified because it means your product has been evaluated by an independent firm that is very reputable and using very sound testing procedures and testing tools. After a rigorous set of procedures and standards, the NCSA has determined that our product can withstand all current methods of `hack attacks,'" said Livermore.

NCSA Firewall Product Certification provides assurance to end-users that a certified Firewall product can be configured to protect an internal network against a suite of current threats tested by NCSA while allowing important business functions to operate effectively in an Intranet/Internet environment.

PORTUS provides the most advanced security protocols in the industry to its users. PORTUS provides out-of-band authentication for shrink-wrapped client-server applications.

The software is currently available through standard computer distribution channels or directly form Livermore. Its suggested retail price is $10,000 for unlimited user license. PORTUS runs on systems using HP-UX 10 and AIX 4.1.4 including the new PowerPCs from IBM, Motorola and Apple.
