Infoseek Appoints Robert D. Weekes Midwest Ad Sales Manager; 14-Year Advertising Sales Executive Joins Internet Search Service

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 9, 1996--Robert D. Weekes has been named Midwest advertising sales manager of Infoseek Corporation, provider of the award-winning Internet navigation service.
The veteran advertising executive will apply his nearly 15 years of experience, which ranges from ad sales experience at major publishing groups to agency work, to manage Infoseek's advertising sales activities in the Midwest, with key accounts in Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, and St. Louis.
In making the announcement, Karl Spangenberg, Infoseek's vice president of World Wide Advertising Sales, said, "Rob Weekes brings impressive advertising sales experience to Infoseek, particularly in the automotive and motor sports areas from his days at Car and Driver. His hire represents another big step in our commitment to build a strong sales team that will demonstrate the power of advertising on the Web." Weekes will report to Richard Ward, director of advertising, West Coast.
Before joining Infoseek, Weekes was Midwest advertising sales manager for The New York Times Magazine Group's Cruising World and Sailing World publications. While there, he more than tripled the number of accounts advertising in the publications and led the company in general advertising sales for the past three years.
Prior to that, Weekes served as senior Detroit advertising manager for Car and Driver magazine, where he managed the publications's $7 million in advertising revenues.
Weekes has also held advertising sales positions at Petersen Publishing Co. in the Motorcycle Group; Hesselbart & Mitten advertising agency; and D'arcy McManus and Masius advertising agency.
Weekes holds a Bachelors degree in Advertising from Michigan State University.
